About this listen

Murder, Movies and Magic. Welcome to the Summer of 1979!

Step into Mackinac Island's scorching summer of 1979, where reality and fantasy blend in a whirlwind of murder, movies, and magic. Meet Jack McGuinn, a paperboy with life on the island all figured out until Hollywood descends to film "Somewhere in Time" with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. Jack's world unravels amidst the movie madness.

As the island buzzes with film frenzy, Jack's parents confront past mysteries that threaten their marriage. Jack teams up with Blaze, an unconventional metal-head to save their union and his cherished life. Together, they embark on a quest to solve a 20-year-old murder, aiming for reward money to fund Jack's dream vacation. Past and present blur, revealing hidden truths.

In "Somewhere in Crime," the prequel to the Amazon bestseller "The Dockporter," join Jack and Blaze in a nostalgic, touching, and hilarious coming-of-age adventure set in the late '70s. Dive into a world of Schwinn bikes, Izod shirts, and KISS versus Black Sabbath debates.

Tanda Gmiter of MLive calls it "A big, sweet, laugh-out-loud scoop of late-'70s nostalgia." Don your checkered Vans, faded KISS T-shirt, and immerse yourself in an endless summer. Order "Somewhere in Crime" now for an unforgettable journey.

Loved it!!!

Somewhere in Crime was great! While I originally ordered it in paperback, I ended up listening to it on Audible and it did a great job distracting me from my bumper to bumper commute in Los Angeles. McVeigh and Bolone are talented writers and, as prior dockporters on Mackinac Island, do an amazing job of depicting life on the island. Dave also did a fabulous job narrating and I'd recommend giving it a listen. Just like "The Dockporter" book- it sucked me in and kept my attention to the very last page! Can't wait for the next in the series! Keep it up, gentlemen!

A Must-Read for “Somewhere in Time” and Mackinac Fans

Following upon the heals of The Dockporter book, the authors have taken us fans of the set of the movie “Somewhere in Time” (i.e, Mackinac Island … pronounced Mackinaw Island) back to the summer of the shooting of the movie (1979).

The audiobook, well narrated by the author, Dave McVeigh, is one that is filled with youthful energy, older people doggedly holding on to their dreams, and the attempt by an eleven- year-old boy to solve a 20-year-old unsolved murder.

The twist at the end, you will not see coming.

I highly endorse this audiobook…ESPECIALLY if you are a fan (like me) of the movie “Somewhere in Time”.
