About this listen

Gloria French was a jolly widow with dyed blonde hair, a raucous laugh, and rosy cheeks. When she first moved from London to the charming Cotswold hills, she was heartily welcomed. She seemed a do-gooder par-excellence, raising funds for the church and caring for the elderly. But she had a nasty habit of borrowing things and not giving them back. They're just small things - a teapot here, a set of silverware there - so it's quite the shock when she is found dead, murdered with a poisoned bottle of elderberry wine.

Afraid the murder will be a blight on the small town, Parish councilor, Jerry Tarrant, hires private detective, Agatha Raisin, to track down the murderer, but the village is secretive, and the residents resent Agatha's investigation. Of course, that doesn't stop the ever-persistent Agatha from investigating and sticking her nose where no one wants it - especially as the suspect list grows. And, as if it isn't enough that Agatha's ex has reentered the picture and the murderer is now targeting Agatha!

With M. C. Beaton's Something Borrowed, Someone Dead, the bossy, vain, and absolutely irresistible Agatha Raisin continues to be a fan favorite.

Fantastic Narrator!

Ms. Keith's voice is Agatha! I can tell each character by the voice. She makes these books so much more enjoyable on Audiable.

M. C. Beaton is back

Who was your favorite character and why?

I love Agatha Raisin, warts and all.

What three words best describe Penelope Keith’s voice?

Elderly

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I was thrilled to see M. C. Beaton back to form with this new book. The mystery was intriguing and Agatha Raisin was her irrepressible self. Still preferred Donata Peters as the reader. Penelope Keith's voice is too old for a 50 year old.

Narrator

Penelope Keith definitely brings the characters to life as no other narrator does.
Side note
Agatha should start calling Charles Charlie!

Good complicated mystery always with a tsist- (at least 3 in this book...Agatha often with good first instincts and multiple poisoning cases.

Great cozy

I love these books and this was one of my favorites. I really hope MC Beaton continues to keep Agatha and company around and into trouble for awhile longer.

Love all her books but...

...this one is definitely a favorite! Sometimes there are too many characters to keep track of who is who but not this time. And it was especially nice to have Toni finally get some comeuppance.

Agatha was a hilarious delight as usual.

Love That Brassy Agatha Raisin!

Perfectly put together mystery in true M.C. Beaton style. How Agatha can be so flawed and still so likable, I don't know, but she IS. Penelope Keith nails it.
