Publisher's summary

A very practical marriage makes Alexander Westcott question his heart in the latest Regency romance from the New York Times best-selling author of Someone to Hold.

When Alexander Westcott becomes the new Earl of Riverdale, he inherits a title he never wanted and a failing country estate he can't afford. But he fully intends to do everything in his power to undo years of neglect and give the people who depend on him a better life....

A recluse for more than 20 years, Wren Heyden wants one thing out of life: marriage. With her vast fortune, she sets her sights on buying a husband. But when she makes the desperate and oh-so-dashing earl a startlingly unexpected proposal, Alex will agree only to a proper courtship, hoping for at least friendship and respect to develop between them. He is totally unprepared for the desire that overwhelms him when Wren finally lifts the veils that hide the secrets of her past....

Great Story, Fabulous narrator

MB is one of my favorite writers. Rosalyn Landor is the best narrator I have ever listened too. Ms. Landor brings Ms Balogh's characters to life in such a way that you feel their joy as well as their pain.
Love this series of "someone" I've listened to all of them and follow their paths through life.
Keep them coming Ms. Balogh and please keep Ms. Landor reading all of your future books.

So very charming.

Mary Balogh continues to be one of my favorite historical romance writers. Such well-developed characters, descriptive settings and intelligent dialogue provide the plot with all that is needed for an absorbing and satisfying read. This third book portrays a woman, Wren, "marred" with a side of her face "disfigured" by a large, red birthmark. She is a successful business woman who hides her face with a veil and is nearly a recluse. But she wishes to marry. How to do so? Use her wealth as a means to entice a quality man to wed her. And the plot begins. So many challenges that requires so much courage to face them as Wren and Alex (the quality gentleman) navigate a relationship right into a lovely HEA. Adding Rosalyn Landor's narration to the story always adds an extra dimension of lovely to my satisfaction.

A different vein of a romance from Mary Balogh - refreshing!

A refreshing change from the boilerplate romance. This story is filled with grit, hope and grace.

Learning to love and accept yourself as you are😊

I felt like I could really relate to the main female character. She was lost and isolated in the beginning of the book but ended up finding herself along the way. This was a phenomenal listen. Thank you 🩷

Simply beautiful.

There is something about this story that pulls at my heartstrings. It's beautiful, touching and ralatable (at least for me). Like the heroine, I know how it feels to be emotionally damaged. And, like her I was saved from mysefl and drawn out of my shell by a beautiful man.
It is definitely my favourite novel by Mary Balogh, I go back to it almost every year. The performance by Ms. Landor is good, although I prefer reading my paperback copy.
