Publisher's summary

Bearing military information that could save 30,000 lives, John Farjeon sets off through the Malayan jungle. His duty is clearcut – to rendezvous with the Allied invasion force. Nothing short of the Japs can stop him.

But here are other obligations beyond patriotism. Like the obligation a man feels to a woman in danger. And when Farjeon discovers a beautiful Eurasian with two children in her care he is faced with an agonising decision.

Don't judge a book by it's cover comes to mind.

So I was looking for something that was sort of like the book hatchet that I read in my youth. The story of survival really spoke to me when I was a kid in middle school, so I found this book. It is not as it seems. The cover shows a British soldier hiding behind a tree from a Japanese patrol in a jungle. The description says it's about how he has to traverse the Malaysian jungle in order to get privileged information back to the Allies all while helping a Eurasian woman and two English boys. "Alright those parameters might make for a good story." I thought. I listened to it for a long time, and found myself wondering, "when does the suspense come in?" then it dawned on me in the last 2 hours of the book that this is a romance novel, and I've wasted my time with this. Not finished yet, but honesty I feel like a fool.
