About this listen
In Christopher Golden’s first horror novel in more than a decade - a work reminiscent of early Stephen King - Snowblind updates the ghost story for the modern age. The small New England town of Coventry had weathered 1,000 blizzards...but never one like this, where people wandered into the whiteout and vanished. Families were torn apart, and the town would never be the same.
Now, as a new storm approaches 12 years later, the folks of Coventry are haunted by the memories of that dreadful blizzard and those who were lost in the snow. Photographer Jake Schapiro mourns his little brother, Isaac, even as - tonight - another little boy is missing. Mechanic and part-time thief Doug Manning’s life has been forever scarred by the mysterious death of his wife, Cherie, and now he’s starting over with another woman and more ambitious crimes.
Police detective Joe Keenan has never been the same since that night, when he failed to save the life of a young boy...and the boy’s father vanished in the storm only feet away. And all the way on the other side of the country, Miri Ristani receives a phone call...from a man who died 12 years ago.
As old ghosts trickle back, this new storm will prove to be even more terrifying than the last.
Spellbinding in scope and rooted deeply in classic storytelling, Snowblind is a chilling masterpiece that is both Christopher Golden’s breakout book and a standout supernatural thriller.

Up and down the street, horrifying secrets are being revealed, and all the while, mixed in with the trick-or-treaters of all ages, four children who do not belong are walking door to door, merging with the kids of Parmenter Road. Children in vintage costumes with faded, eerie makeup. They seem terrified, and beg the neighborhood kids to hide them away, to keep them safe from The Cunning Man.

It’s the house of their dreams. Former marine Harry and his wife, Sasha, have packed up their life and their golden retriever, Dash, and fled the corporate rat race to live off the land in rural Idaho. Their breathtaking new home sits on more than forty acres of meadow, aspen trees, and pine forest in the Teton Valley. Even if their friends and family think it’s a strange choice for an up-and-coming pair of urban professionals, Harry and Sasha couldn’t be happier about the future they’re building, all by their lonesome.

In upstate New York, in the woods around Woodstock, Dutchman's Creek flows out of the Ashokan Reservoir. Steep-banked, fast-moving, it offers the promise of fine fishing, and of something more, a possibility too fantastic to be true. When Abe and Dan, two widowers who have found solace in each other's company and a shared passion for fishing, hear rumors of the Creek, and what might be found there, the remedy to both their losses, they dismiss it as just another fish story.

Story
On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

Spooky with ghosts and monsters
What did you like best about this story?
I love ghost stories set in the dead of winter. Just a perfect setting for a scary story.
Which scene was your favorite?
This story has a great crescendo.
Any additional comments?
I think this would make a great movie. The narration was a bit overly intense, but not enough to distract me. Ghosts and monsters...a great combination wrapped up in a good exciting story.

Baby It's Cold Outside
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend this book to a friend. I really liked it. The plot was excellent. The characters were for the most part well drawn.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Detective Keenan is my favorite character. I feel that his role is pivotal to the flow of the story. He is also a sympathetic and likable character.
Which character – as performed by Peter Berkrot – was your favorite?
I have noticed that same of the reviewers do not like Peter Berkrot's narration, but I do. I think his voice is suited to horror novels. My favorite character performed by him is Isaac. He does this 10 year old boy's character convincing, even in difficult to narrate moments.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
It was. I did listen to it in big chunks.
Any additional comments?
I recommend this book to lovers of Dean Koontz's body of work. It was an interesting concept and the author did a good job of making the large cast of characters real. The plotting was fun and worked for the most part. I was not "filled with horror", but I was entertained. I was able to enter the narration and "watch" the story as in enfolded. The novel is not perfect, I think the author is on the way though and this is worth the read.

Terrifying and Thrilling
Where does Snowblind rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It was pretty good.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I enjoyed Ella. She was a strong character>
Have you listened to any of Peter Berkrot’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, but it was good.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When the icemen took the little brother.
Any additional comments?

Predictable
This book was not 'too bad'. It kept my interest to some degree but I found it to be somewhat predictable. There was not real 'mystery' and I didn't find it that 'suspenseful'. To be honest I skipped some chapters toward the end because I could figure out what was going to happen. No real surprises. If you want something easy to listen to on a long trip I would suggest this story. It will not distract you from driving too much because it is an 'easy' listen.

The narrator did a great job.

Good traditional ghost story
This was a good story for a snowy night. The idea of something hiding in the snow while people hibernate during a storm was very good since I listened to this during a decent snowfall.
I would recommend this to people who are able to suspend disbelief enough to imagine something might be out there!

Snowy Weather Spine Chills
It snowed the week I listened to this book. Did it help to make the book more interesting? Probably, but I don't think I needed a snow storm to enjoy it.
Chistopher Golden does a great job of involving the reader/listener in the lives of the characters just enough to feel for them. Then he goes and wrenches guts a couple of times, just so you know you're involved.
Admittedly there are a couple of parts toward the end where I was thinking, huh? but, you know, it doesn't really make too much difference in the effectiveness of the premise, which is essentially, a "ghost" story.
I enjoyed being told that maybe that snow covered pine tree outside is not really a snow covered pine tree.... I enjoyed having to check twice to make sure it's not closer than when I first looked... hmm... also, my husband doesn't seem himself tonight. Oh well, maybe it's just the weather.
Well done, it's not easy to scare me after decades of reading/listening to King and other masters of the genre but Golden did just that.
Thoroughly enjoyed this one!

Bookends with some uncanny terror
Christopher Golden knows how to intermingle the everyday drama with the supernaturally terrifying. On this point Snowblind does not disappoint. And Snowblind bookends with some uncanny terror.
The middle part, where Golden goes deep focusing on the characters and their internal struggles, becomes a slog in the snow. The story begins to thaw and the temperature doesn't really drop until the twilight of the book.
