About this listen

Sixteen years ago the Kingdom of Winter was conquered and its citizens enslaved, leaving them without magic or a monarch. Now the Winterians' only hope for freedom is the eight survivors who managed to escape, and who have been waiting for the opportunity to steal back Winter's magic and rebuild the kingdom ever since.

Orphaned as an infant during Winter's defeat, Meira has lived her whole life as a refugee, raised by the Winterians' general, Sir. Training to be a warrior - and desperately in love with her best friend and future king, Mather - she would do anything to help Winter rise to power again.

So when scouts discover the location of the ancient locket that can restore their magic, Meira decides to go after it herself. Finally, she's scaling towers and fighting enemy soldiers just as she's always dreamed she would. But the mission doesn't go as planned, and Meira soon finds herself thrust into a world of evil magic and dangerous politics - and ultimately comes to realize that her destiny is not, never has been, her own.

Sara Raasch's debut fantasy is a lightning-fast tale of loyalty, love, and finding one's destiny.

I enjoyed meeting these characters, edge of my seat at times. I could not stop listening.

so enjoyed this

What about Kate Rudd’s performance did you like?
Everything. I love all her work; she's awesome!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No. And that's exactly why I didn't give it a perfect score. I enjoyed it and it kept me entertained, but it wasn't anything to rave about.

Any additional comments?
It was ok. I don't think there was anything wrong with the book, I liked the characters, the pacing was good, it didn't annoy me (not once, so that is saying a lot) and it kept me entertained. I just didn't love any of it. Maybe I was just not really into the actual plot of the story, with the seasons and the rhythms and the conduits and all that jazz. In any case, I won't be jumping off the walls to read the second, but I most definitely plan on reading it.

A decent read

What would have made Snow Like Ashes better?

It had all the makings of being something I would love, but it just wasn't.

I thought this would be my kind of book

The plot is actually very good and the book is well written, but the love store feels flat and forced.

fairly decently written, poor love story

I really enjoyed the book, however, I personally did not care for this particular narrator. She wasn't awful, just not my taste.

Great book, Narrator wasn't for me

If you are fan of Sarah J. Maas Throne of Glass series you will love this story. Very similar feel and soft magic system.

Fun book fast paced storyline!

I'm not really sure why so many people didn't. The plot was alittle perdictical but the story and characters were sound. *shrugs*

Personally I liked it...

Though it has a splendid idea of the seasons versus each other: I guess the magical aspect of the novel. Bummer

Reading too much

Too slow, too drawn out. I found it difficult to really get into this book. It kept me long enough to finish, but not looking forward to book 2.

Kingdom of ?
