About this listen

Brady Stewart lives for the fire. Nightmares of a fire that changed everything haunt Nicole McMillan.

Whether fighting fires in the Kuwaiti desert, in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico, or the heartland of Oklahoma, both women hide behind a smoke screen, disguising who they really are and denying what matters most. When they meet in the midst of the challenge of their lives, their passion ignites. No matter how much they try to avoid the flames, where there's smoke, there's fire.

Loved this book.

Any additional comments?

I loved Smoke and Fire. It holds your attention right from the first page. Excellent setting in an oil fire suppression company. I'm sure most of us know nothing of this industry. Add a smart woman business executive and a brave, good hearted fire fighter and sit back and enjoy the book.

An Inclusive story

I really like that this story is centered around body images that are less than perfect. So many of these romances have characters that have descriptions that lead you to believe they are "perfectly toned." Well, we're not all like that. For one reason or another, we are not. CUDOS to the author for being inclusive and covering the common fears associated with such a situation. Good story and nice job by the narrator.

Decent book!

Overall good listen. The narrator was also decent, but at times I felt there were no pauses for effect. The love story was layed out well. The overall message is what made the book good. I recommend it!!

Just Ok

This book was in my wishlist for a while and I finally gave in and purchased it but was slightly disappointed. The story line was OK but the actual writing and narration both needed help. The editing was so choppy that there were times I wondered if I had skipped something. When there was finally a sex scene it was over before it began and I was very confused. The book had potential, but wasn't that great.

A few cliches short of five stars

If it were not for all same 'ol romance novel go to elements. There is one of the lead characters who has overcome a terrible illness or accident. The other lead character must overcome social or psychological issues and both characters carry emotional scars and baggage from past love interests. Then there is of course the "oh, she's much too good for me, she deserves a woman without all this baggage that I carry. Granted this is a staple of most romance novels and if they'd been used once or twice then put in the background it wouldn't be much of a problem. However the author kept beating those two or three dead horses repeatedly, there are enough real issues in just about every relationship that romance authors should be able to come up with something other than the old misunderstanding, miscommunications breakup 80 percent through the book. This serves to provide them a resting point that allows the story to gear up for the climatic scene.
On the other hand the rest of this story is a really good listen.

Recommend reading the book

I think the story was good, but I did not like the narrator. It felt like she was speed reading throughout the story, no pauses after periods or when the characters pov changed. I was frequently confused and had to go back to determine if the pov changed. I found myself irritated throughout the entire story.
