Holocaust

I totally enjoyed this interesting book and like the characters which included Donna (forensic psychiatrist), Kevin, Carole, Gavin, Ida, David and even Aunt Helen. It does cover history of the holocaust and survivors of concentration camp; I was moved by it and loved the ending. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Thank you

An Interesting Listen

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the narrator and found it very interesting. When Dr. Donna DeShanye's neighbour receives a package in the mail from a sister he didn't know he had, Donna puts all her investigating skills to work. With Donna's help Gavin's learns of the dark history his sister faced. A history he had only read before. A wonderful combination of education and entertainment, with some darkness and a few surprises.

Great Read

Powerful, compelling, and a must read

I just finished Sisters of the Scorned. I hope you will join me in reading this powerful and compelling book by Bella Fayre. It touched my heart deeply. It is well written, and the information imparted is so important and germane to current times. My husband was part of the liberation of Belsen Concentration Camp making this even more poignant.

Faye brought the characters and event to life. I loved that she incorporated Elie Wiesel’s profound words. Bella shows us the importance of remembering and learning from history, the Holocaust Memorial Museum and the amazing resources they provide at our fingertips. I found the book so powerful that I have purchased several copies to give as gifts and recommended it to many others.

Uncovering the truth

A beautifully written tale that really opened my eyes. I was certainly aware of the historical events that were the basis for this story… very powerful indeed.

Bella Fayre did a phenomenal job with sharing this story. It’s obvious that is holds special meaning to her, and I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to listen.

I have mixed feelings about Kirk Strickland’s narration. He did a great job with bringing out the feelings and emotions, but I was not a fan of his female voices. Overall, I did appreciate the performance.

Narrator does matter...

This time I really need to separate the book itself from the interpretation of it....

This is the third book in the series of Donna DeShayne investigations, a series that weaves tha past into the present and makes it the most important element of each crime case Donna deals with. And this is what I like best about the books; Ms Fayre molds history into an intriguing and integral character of each tale she tells.
In the previous two books she used events from the US history that, as a foreigner, were unknown to me and thus extremely interesting ; this time she goes back to WW II and what happened to Jews during that terrible period in the world history - and that was no news to me, as a native of Poland, a country that suffered the Nazi occupation and saw its most horrifying "face". The story told by Ms Fayre of the Dutch Jews in "Sisters of the Scorned" is real, is true and yet still filtered through to make it palatable compared to what happened in occupied Poland. Nevertheless, the book maintains that level of attention to historical details I so admired before, and the plot itself is again involving and fast moving making it a good listen and an emotionally engaging story.

As for the narration, it generally is quite good with one huge exception: Mr Strickland makes all the elder women in the book sound as if they were one foot in their graves, so feeble and almost unable to breathe a word they sound... I understand Donna and her friends are not in their 20s any more, but they seem to be well over 100 with the voices they've been given... How on earth are they even able to walk and work any more, I wonder,,,:) After I got used to those voices (... well, no, I didn't get used to them at all, they bothered me all the way through) I could focus on the story itself and as I said, generally it's a very decent interpretation, with the right level of emotion woven into the narration to make you want to listen on. So I'd rate it at 3-3.5 stars.

So overall, it's another interesting and intriguing Donna DeShayne adventure in a confusing interpretation that you may or may not like. But definitely give it a chance - Ms Fayre's storytelling will hook you up in no time at all...:)

Outstanding

I absolutely loved this story. It was made realistic by the Narrator. Her voice took you on the journey that Donna takes to solve the case. Superb.
