Publisher's summary

Darkness never dies.

Hunted across the True Sea, haunted by the lives she took on the Fold, Alina must try to make a life with Mal in an unfamiliar land, all while keeping her identity as the Sun Summoner a secret. But she can't outrun her past or her destiny for long.

The Darkling has emerged from the Shadow Fold with a terrifying new power and a dangerous plan that will test the very boundaries of the natural world. With the help of a notorious privateer, Alina returns to the country she abandoned, determined to fight the forces gathering against Ravka. But as her power grows, Alina slips deeper into the Darkling's game of forbidden magic, and farther away from Mal. Somehow, she will have to choose between her country, her power, and the love she always thought would guide her - or risk losing everything to the oncoming storm.

Good Start Good Ending But Slow Book

The start of this book wasn't bad, a lot of action and tracking. but then the middle of the book towards the end of it it was slow and fast... some events passed by quickly, and other events passed by slowly.

Honestly i think this series could be really really good. so many things could have been written in a different way, and so many events could have been executed in a difference way too, making this book way much better.

One of the things i mean is those Grishens, yes it was explained some how their powers in the first bok, but how it works and so on were not presented that clearly.

I was going to give this book a lesser rating, but the end of it was really good. and I hope that the 3rd book would be much better than this one.

If you read the first one, then give this one a shot, its not bad, but could have been better. And if you have no idea whats this book about, then go and buy the first one and give it a try.

Cheers.

Alina makes me laugh

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I totally would. I would recommend the series to a friend. It's interesting and strange and vaguely Russian. I like it.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Siege and Storm?

For me, it was when Alina saw Mal in the psuedo-Fight Club. It was probably just as upsetting for me as it was for her. Stupid boy.

Which character – as performed by Lauren Fortgang – was your favorite?

She's an excellent Sturmhand, or the younger prince.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I would have if I could have, but alas, I have a grown-up job that requires most of my attention. I listen most in the car.

Any additional comments?

I really can't wait for the next book. I mean, I also want Alina and the Darkling to just go at it, but I know that can't/won't happen. I hope they find the fire bird.

The plot thickens.

So many twists I didn't see coming. Some of the new characters introduced in this installment have become favorites while ones that annoyed me before are even more loathed.

listening to them to catch a jump on Netflix

I started reading this series simply because I have fallen in love with the Netflix series Shadow and Bone. Now I am not so patiently waiting for Season 2! and right now this series is not disappointing. I am invested in the characters. infuriated by the plot. loving it!

4.5

I wish I could give 4.5, this book is an improvment over the first in the trilogy but not nearly as good as Six of Crows.

Narrated Brilliantly!

Lauren Fortgang narrates the Grisha Trilogy exceptionally well, using a variety of voices that match each individual character perfectly. I don't hear Fortgang as she reads; instead, I hear the characters spring to life as she creatively takes on each persona, and I can't imagine another voice for the characters.
As my first audiobook, I am more than pleased. This book has helped me recover through my concussion, and I was going insane with boredom until I began listening to this series. It has helped tremendously by allowing me to imagine another world full of excitement and fantasy as I am in bed unwell. Thank you so much!

Great second book

I sat down to listen to this book and ended up finishing it in far less time than I usually would. In fact I listened to the entire trilogy in less time than I would take to listen to a single book.
The characters had me both loving and hating them and back again. And because of that they felt more real. It's a great series that I highly recommend to everyone who loves fantasy.

Good, but

Good story. Good performance but the heroine is a bit whiny. Kind of goes on and on about emotions.

Let the Race Begin!

And the story continues is a very predictable way.

Alina and Mal are on the run, hunted. They don't know who is with them and who is the enemy (besides the monsters of the Fold.) And to top it off, she must keep what her power is a secret. Together they start to gather people who can help them fight. Alina learns about her power. And the Darkling spreads is power and engages in mind games with Alina.

Let the race begin.
