Shifter

This was a decent story, although the dialog was a bit lacking overall. I liked the plot line, but wished it had been fleshed out more. Too much of the story was glanced over and felt shallow for me to get into it completely. I guess I liked the idea more than the execution here, but it was still enjoyable overall.

Revengeful horror

Clancy Reynolds seems to be a normal, ordinary guy. But, when he is dumped by his girlfriend, he decides to take revenge on her new lover. When that goes horribly wrong, he is given the option to serve his time in an insane asylum.

Once there, he is approached by Dr. William Hoffman and given the option to undergo an experiment that will allow him to go free. Unfortunately, Clancy doesn't read the find print on the contract and things quickly descend into horror.

This was a short but oh so creepy horror tale, full of terror and lots and lots of gore. I would recommend anyone with a weak stomach to steer clear of this one. Some of the more graphic descriptions were pretty off-putting for even a diehard horror fan!

If you like dark, gruesome horror, give this one a try. The narrator does a phenomenal job and really made the atmosphere even more horrific. This one will stick with me for a long, long time. I was given the chance to listen to the audiobook version by the author/narrator/publisher and chose to review it.

A quick shot of revenge

Ok, so we have a short revenge story here.

Overall, it was fine. Although I was engaged in what was happening, I wasn't very horrified listening to the story - I actually thought it was fairly tame.

In my opinion, the "body horror" descriptions could have been way more gory and detailed. The main character undergoes a metamorphosis, and we're just told his skin falls off and moves around on its own, and a basic passing mention of it hurting. Come on, sock it to us! I want my sensibilities offended! Any horror movie or death metal fan might be left feeling a bit wanting like I was.

One other minor issue some may encounter is that there are no truly likeable characters here. It's a short book, so there's not much opportunity for character growth. The main character is not a protagonist, and as such I had no concern for his well-being throughout the story, which deflated much of the suspense of what is coming. I was curious to see how it would end, but I was only an impartial observer throughout.

The narrator is pretty good, if a little bit wooden at times.

Revenge twice over!

“Shifter” is a short story of revenge. Revenge gone horribly wrong sends our protagonist Clancy to a psychiatric hospital. Here he is recruited for an experimental treatment supposedly concerning anger management. As with Clancy’s revenge, the treatment does not go as planned either. We follow along as once again; Clancy takes his revenge. Three.point.five for a nice ending twist. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Interesting story...

I enjoyed listening to the audio version of this book. It was easy to understand the narrator. I could picture things in my mind as it was being read to me. It was an easy experience to hear this story instead of reading it myself.

Entertaining Diversion

This story was short and bloody and entertaining. There were some things that didn't line up but when dealing with a horror story sometimes things need to not make sense in order for the horror to happen. What's important is that somehow those events occurred and had a very adverse result and that result gets multiplied by 20 in a whirl of chaos and death. It's popcorn-y fun like an 80s horror movie.

The narration definitely added a bit to it where some of the things that might've stopped me while reading were said with enough authority to let it fly. So I give the narrator a good amount of credit.

Creepy and quick listen

Enjoyed this audiobook. Narrator did a great job. It’s nice listening to short stories sometimes. However, I felt the ending was a little rushed. This is one book I wished was a little longer.

The Asylum

It is very short but decent horror book that left you wondering if this is going to be a series due to ending with William Hoffman and the found arm. The book is about Clancy who had a very rough life and the girl of his dreams Christina left him for Richard and he gets even by burning down the house not realizing both are in there. He is committed to an asylum and undergoes an experiment. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Thank you

The chilling details

I really enjoyed the comeback character, but most of all I enjoyed and found the best descriptive images in my head from the detail in the writing! I could see every scene in my head.
