About this listen

It is summer in 1890, in Robertsbridge, a small village in East Sussex. Dr. Watson, on holiday without Holmes, finds the village peaceful and sleepy, but the truth is different. He soon discovers that the villagers are afraid, the atmosphere is threatening.

Why do three mysterious white monks haunt the ruined abbey? What does the gipsy seek? Where is a missing 10-year-old boy? Watson calls for Holmes, but why is Holmes fearful of endangering lives? We listen in this exciting story how Holmes’ patient deduction and Watson’s courage come together, to solve a many-sided mystery just before it turns into disaster.

An easy to read, easy to follow, delightful mystery, strong in its Doylean voice and fun to 'read'

My only complaint is that the narration, although clear and easy to understand, is a bit plain and monotonous.

Nevertheless, this is a great choice for any Sherlock Holmes' fan.

A very good mystery

This books picks up the day after "The Mystery of the Thames Murders" wraps. Rieke continues her excellent command of Sherlockian style, language and atmosphere. She does soften Holmes' rougher edges a little but that only endears him more to the reader. If you enjoy well-written pastiches, this book is for you! Narrator David Bufton turns in another masterful performance. I highly recommend!

Another Home Run for Johanna Rieke!

This mystery is a poor story in the Sherlock Holmes venue. I found that the voice of the person reading the book sounded bored and Spock in a monotone. The story seemed haphazard but would have been improved with more enthusiasm by the narrator.

Johanna Rieke created a wonderful Sherlock Holmes story in “Sherlock Holmes and the Mystery of the Three Monks”. She has a masterfully recreated the style of the canon and written a suspenseful mystery. The narration by David Bufton was great and added to the enjoyment of the story.

Wonderful Holmes story

You’ve gotta be kidding me! I don’t know which was worse; the narrator or the context. The narrator is spectacularly horrible. The context is… well, what context? This is one book I wish I had bought the hard copy edition of. So at the very least I could make use of it as kindling.
