About this listen
What if the goal of raising a Christian girl was about more than keeping her virginity intact? What if it was about raising a strong, independent young woman who knows who she is, uses her voice, and confidently steps into the life God has for her?
From the authors of The Great Sex Rescue comes this evidence-based book grounded on surveys of over 28,000 women to offer moms a fresh, freeing, and biblically grounded message of sexuality and self-worth for their daughters that is less about the don'ts and more about the dos.
This isn't your average parenting book: no pat answers or overly broad principles here. No cliche prescriptives or toxic teachings that your daughter will have to unpack and recover from as an adult, like so many of us have. Instead, you'll find data-driven insights about how to raise a woman who is resilient, knows her strength, and has the discernment skills needed to make good choices. By reframing (and sometimes replacing) common evangelical messages to teen girls, this book will equip you to raise a girl who can navigate the difficult waters of growing up while still clinging tight to the God who created her on purpose, for a purpose.

Story
Based on a groundbreaking in-depth survey of 22,000 Christian women, The Great Sex Rescue unlocks the secrets to what makes some marriages red hot while others fizzle out. Generations of women have grown up with messages about sex that make them feel dirty, used, or invisible, while men have been sold such a cheapened version of sex, they don't know what they're missing. The Great Sex Rescue hopes to turn all of that around, developing a truly biblical view of sex where mutuality, intimacy, and passion reign.

Women were there. For centuries, discussions of early Christianity have focused on male leaders in the church. But there is ample evidence right in the New Testament that women were actively involved in ministry, at the frontier of the gospel mission, and as respected leaders. Nijay Gupta calls us to bring these women out of the shadows by shining light on their many inspiring contributions to the planting, growth, and health of the first Christian churches.

Story
In Non-Toxic Masculinity, Zachary Wagner tells men, "If you are in Christ, this is your problem—and you should be part of the solution." Reflecting on his own coming of age in the purity culture movement and ongoing recovery from sexual shame, Wagner confronts harmful teaching from the American church that has distorted desire, sex, relationships, and responsibility. For those—both men and women—who feel disillusioned and adrift, this book offers a renewed vision for Christian male sexuality founded in empathy and selflessness.

Story
"Biblical womanhood" is the idea that the Bible teaches God-ordained male leadership and female submission in the home and subordination in the church. Some say this hierarchy of authority is sufficiently evidenced by examples of male leadership (and lack of female leadership) in the Bible: the first human was male, Israel's official priests were male, most authors of Scripture were male, Jesus was male and chose twelve male Apostles. God is addressed as Father. Wives are commanded to submit to their husbands.

Biblical womanhood - the belief that God designed women to be submissive wives, virtuous mothers, and joyful homemakers - pervades North American Christianity. From choices about careers to roles in local churches to relationship dynamics, this belief shapes the everyday lives of evangelical women. Yet biblical womanhood isn't biblical, says Baylor University historian Beth Allison Barr. It was born in a series of clearly definable historical moments.

Story
Most Christian parenting books are ready with exact practices every family should follow in order to raise obedient children. In this obedience-training model, faith is a wall, constructed brick by brick, as adults tell children what to believe and how to behave. But what if obedience is not the goal of Christian parenting? What if it’s our job as parents to instead help our kids get to know God and discover that God can be trusted? Woven can help children anchor to who God is and have faith practices that are rich, textured, and all their own.

As a twenty-three-year-old singer and the soon-to-be wife of youth pastor Joshua Harris, nothing in Shannon Harris's secular upbringing prepared her to enter the world of conservative Christianity. Soon Joshua's bestselling book I Kissed Dating Goodbye helped inspire a national purity movement, and Shannon's identity became "pastor's wife." The Woman They Wanted recounts Shannon's remarkable experience inside Big Church—where she was asked to live within a narrow definition of womanhood for almost two decades—and her journey out of that world and into a more authentic version of herself.

How can we converse with people whose views differ from our own? In The Ballot and the Bible, Kaitlyn Schiess explores these questions and more. She unpacks examples of how Americans have connected the Bible to politics in the past, highlighting times it was applied well and times it was egregiously misused.

In the 1990s, a “purity industry” emerged out of the white evangelical Christian culture. Purity rings, purity pledges, and purity balls came with a dangerous message: girls are potential sexual “stumbling blocks” for boys and men, and any expression of a girl’s sexuality could reflect the corruption of her character. This message traumatized many girls - resulting in anxiety, fear, and experiences that mimicked the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder - and trapped them in a cycle of shame.

It means, among other things, that he's been given the gift of a unique visual wiring - and the challenges that come with it. Through the compassion and candor in this audiobook, you can learn what men have long wished the women in their lives knew but didn't know how to explain - and see the difference this awareness makes.

Face it, your attitudes about marriage and the path to marriage are probably wrong. Some you've inherited, some you've simply bought - hook, line, and sinker - and some you've made up yourself. They have translated into bad action (or no action) in dating and relationships. But it's not too late; you can break the cycle of dating dysfunction and learn to honor marriage, marry well, and live intentionally while you wait.

The love that the world tells us to pursue is all about self, about following your heart’s desires. But what is the Christian worldview on love? When we follow Jesus, we realize that he invites us to reorient the focus of our lives, so instead of chasing love primarily for our own happiness, we are first and foremost to give love - to God and to others.

The church needs to hear this.
I didn’t grow up in a very complimentarian church, and yet I still was exposed to many of the toxic teachings regarding modesty, sex, emotions, and more that Sheila, Rebecca and Joanna discuss in this book. If you are a Christian mom looking for resources, read this one first. It is a great tool for discernment when it comes to how to set your daughters up for success.

If you are a parent or ministry leader of women or young girls, I plead with you to read this book
My formative years of the faith were during the boom of purity culture. I am grateful for biblically grounded parents who helped me to think critically and shielded me from some of its harmful teachings, but I was not unaffected by the messages women/girls were given. I’m so grateful to Sheila and the team for writing this book to help guide me as I raise my own daughter, thank you for paving the way for reconstruction of what it means to be a godly woman. As a data nerd myself, I couldn’t be more pleased to see biblically backed teachings, supported by data and harmful teachings warned against by data. I can’t think of a better way to judge the fruit than cold hard numbers. Thank you for delving into the experience of women. I am so grateful.

A must read for the evangelical church!
This was a hard book to listen to as it confronted the very tricky teachings that groomed me to enter into a toxic marriage that lasted over 2 decades. I'm so grateful for the work that was put into this so I can hopefully teach my daughters to watch out for red flags and to fully embrace who God created them to be.

Illuminating
A must read. I’m ordering a hard copy as well to re-read and share. This information will be beneficial in my parenting for my daughter and sons. This gives language to the low hum of frustration I have had as a woman within the institutional church structures.

The response we needed to “purity culture”
This book was so incredibly affirming and validating as someone who grew up in the height of “purity culture”. It explained so many of the “whys” of what I’ve experienced and things I’ve struggled with. It also really stretched me to think about how I move forward myself and in teaching my children.

Honest, relatable, eye-opening
I am not a mom, let alone a mom of teenagers, but as a millennial who grew up in a (wonderful) evangelical church, many of the messages the authors discussed were super relatable. Their insights will help me as I continue to navigate relationships I'm the future, and I'm going to pass this along to my church in hopes that the next generations of girls can get more balanced messages that point them to Jesus instead of religion.

A must read for parents, teachers, and pastors to girls.
This is an amazing book about how we can help Christian young women to have healthy lives and relationships.

Real info o healthy ways to talk about sex, relationships, and religion.
The authors give actual data to support their findings. They systematically talk about what has helped and hurt girls in the past and what we can do moving forward.

Thankful for this work
Highly recommend if you read purity culture books in your youth or young adulthood and don’t want to repeat the same messages for your kids.
