A great addition

A great addition to the interesting world of Sherlock writings that deal in the supernatural. Worth a listen!

Sherlock Holmes explained…

In this series, the supernatural games are afoot. You have to read it to find out. Suspend belief and the classic ACD mindset, and you’ll have a great adventure. The narrator was great. His performance brought the characters and story to life. I received a free audiobook code for my honest review.

Pleasantly surprised!

I did not expect to like this, actually, based on some of the other reviews, and because I do not listen to very much fantasy, but I thought it was super. I really liked this portrayal of Holmes and Watson. I plan to listen to however many more there are in the series, and am really glad to have listened to this. I liked Martyn Clements performance, too. It seemed just perfect and added to the story.

Please don't mispronounce words!

Any additional comments?

Being a bit of a perfectionist, I found myself listening for the next word that was pronounced so poorly it may not have been decipherable had I not had Sherlockian ears!
Twice I heard Sherlock's ennui pronounced en-you-i. There were enough other words that had an almost unrecognizable meaning due to the way they were pronounced that this narrator got on my last nerve!

Only for those with great imagination.

Holmes' purists will hate this. Those who can suspend their reasoning will enjoy a pretty good fantasy/adventure.

I really liked it

Well, this surprised me nicely. I'll be honest, as soon as I knew that fairies were involved I almost bailed. But I found the story delightful, and the fact that Watson has a very important role in it might be part of its appeal to me :P

I enjoyed the Marie Laveau's twist and all the voodoo lore :P

Maybe not for the most strict holmesians, but if you enjoy a good 'what if...?' pastiche, this is for you :D

Worst narrator I've ever heard.

What disappointed you about Shadowfall?

The narrator's voice was ill-suited. He used high, annoying voices for the female characters and an odd, definitely-not-from-England accent. In addition, his "Holmes" and his "Watson" sounded exactly the same. Ugh!

Has Shadowfall turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, but I would never listen to another book by this author.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Martyn Clements?

Almost anyone.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I couldn't get past chapter five, because the narrator was so bad, so I can't say.

Any additional comments?

Ugh. No. Just... no.
