About this listen
Only in the darkness can vengeance thrive
It's been a month since Kayla, a headstrong ruin rat, and Carl, an OmniLab trader, returned to the surface. After she helped to restore control of the towers to those who would look after the best interests of the people, she'd found herself irrevocably bonded to Alec, the new co-leader of the High Council.
Although her heart belongs to Carl, she finds it difficult to resist the strange bond between her and Alec. Caught between learning how to handle her new emerging abilities, mysterious earthquakes, and a strange group seemingly intent on targeting OmniLab, Kayla is once again swept up in events that threaten to change the entire future of the towers.

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Excellent continuation of series
This is the second book/first series I've read/listened to by Jamie A. Waters. She is an excellent author! I listened to the first three audiobooks in this series back to back. I was so completely invested in the characters and storyline that I did not want to pause the audio. Fantasy is not my normal genre and I generally dislike triangles, but I had to know how it would all play out. I loved the closeness of many of the characters. There was suspense, action, and romance. The guy I wanted to win the heroine the whole way through, WON! I was thrilled for that. I am looking forward to continuing this series!
Paige Reisenfeld is an amazing narrator. She voiced the male and female characters perfectly. She performed with emotion that had it rolling like a movie in my head. It was perfection!

Love the story! Narrator is amazing!
Another great story in this series! I loved all the twists that this one takes. We are taken on a quite a trip! This one continues where the last book left off. I hoped that everything would work out in favor of Carl and Kayla buuut all kinds of crazy thing happen and now we have some new angles. I was on the edge of my seat while listening then that ending happens!!!! I can not wait for the next in the series to see what will happen next!
I have so many notes on these characters and they just keep going! This story and these characters are so well put together. I am excited to listen to these. Paige Reisenfeld does an excellent job narrating this one! She does such a good job on all the characters that are in this fantasy story.

Captivating!
This is the second book in The Omni Tower series, an entertaining post-apocalyptic fantasy series with romantic elements. The story continues where the first book left off. There is a lot going on in this installment. I liked the action, the mystery, the suspense, the danger, the romance, and the twists and turns. I liked to follow Kayla, Carl and Alec in this adventure. The world building is complex and intriguing. Paige Reisenfeld did an excellent job bringing this story to life. I enjoyed it. Looking forward to listening to Tremors of the Past, the next book in the series, to know what happens next. #PFPAudio

Obsessed w/ this series...
Book 2 in Waters’ The Omni Towers series picks up right where book 1 left off. Kayla’s having a tough time, there’s unrest in the towers, so much cause for drama!
Waters’ character development is brilliant; I sort of hated Alec at the end of book 1, but not long into book 2, it’s clear he has pretty pure intentions. At least, I think he does. Clearly, I’m a little undecided still, but I no longer hate him. It’s basically impossible to hold onto my hate and I’m forced to keep an open mind. I applaud Waters’ writing style for making me stop and think, and I’ll just continue in the series and enjoy the ride.
There’s no shortage of drama, as you can see.
There is action, romance, heat, deception, adventure, mystery… what doesn’t this book have?
It does not end on a cliffhanger but I did need to start book 3 right away. I just can’t get enough of this world.
I read an ARC, but can still state that the manuscript is pretty clean so it’s safe to say this book is well-edited and proofed.
Character development is extraordinary. Water uses actions and other characters’ descriptives to get strong personality traits across, her various players really do have distinctly different voices. This is hard to come by in fiction.
This series is truly a gem that I recommend everyone read. I would not change a thing.
5 stars
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Updated June 2024, after listening to the audiobook: the above still stands, I absolutely love this series and expect I’ll re-read and/or re-listen to it again and again.
🎧Audio:
Narrator Paige is great, she almost manages to make this book sound like a full-cast production. She performs, and never sounds robotic. Overall sound quality is perfect. 5 stars.

Team Alec!
This was great! Just as good, maybe even better than number 1. And it's left me dying to start number 3!!! The narrator is fantastic. And this author is great. I've read another series by her and I loved that one as well.
But I am totally team Alec. He way hotter and has a ton of power, in more way than one. I find Charle to be kind of a tool. lol. I'm dying to see what Kyla can do!!! I can't wait for more!!!
