About this listen

In Shadow Flight, Harrison Jones has spun an aviation tale of kidnapping, drug running, and intrigue. The story opens with flight instructor, Kyle Bennett, teaching slow flight and stalls to one of his students, Brooke Roberts, the wife of a surgeon. Brooke's husband, also a pilot, gave his wife flying lessons as a birthday gift. Ultimately, that gift could cost both Brooke and her instructor their lives. Fast-paced and riveting, this is a flying story that winds its way through almost every facet of a flyer's career, from flight instructing to charter work to airline flying. Jones' background as an international captain for a major airline gives him the unique insight required to tell this account of crime and terrorism. For those interested in flying as a career, this novel is educational in airline operations while the author spins a wonderful yarn. Shadow Flight will not disappoint. Once you begin listening, you will not want to stop until you are finished. If you are a pilot, you will connect with this story on many different levels, but in particular, you will absolutely identify with your own level of flying in this story - from student pilot to flight instructor, to second officer, to line maintenance technicians, to line security, to airline captain. Jones has done a masterful job of portraying much of the aviation industry in Shadow Flight.

great book

The story was excellent, however the narrator was very difficult to tolerate. He read like he was reading to a second grader.

Kept me involved and committed to the story and characters making me want the next of Harrison's books

Great plot and story from beginning to end. Realistic in aviation lingo and funny at the appropriate times and serious at the critical times. I firmly believe anyone would enjoy Shadow Flight. Make or female, aviation fan or not, young or old. Well maybe one of the characters in the book didn't enjoy it so much but it was well deserved. I encourage u to buy this today and find out why Harrison has carved a unique style of writing in a niche that is glamorous and exciting.

Unpredictable flights

I enjoyed the author's ability to keep my interest at a high level through out the book. Situational "switches" made the story very intriguing and hard to put down.

Mr. Block's narrative was excellent considering all the characters that he portrayed. Not an easy task.

great book, lousy narration

What did you love best about Shadow Flight?

the story and aviation details were very entertaining

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Thomas Block?

I love Mr. Block's writings, but his narration is soooooo computer like I wonder at times if it was a computer doing the talking.

Any additional comments?

Great story, enjoyed Mr. Harrison's writings, will probably read his next two books instead of listening to the audio version.

Fast Paced and Fun

Where does Shadow Flight rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

A solid contender.

What other book might you compare Shadow Flight to and why?

It's an aviation thriller like Thomas Block's own books - "Mayday," "Captain"...

Have you listened to any of Thomas Block’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Thomas Block has created a solid library of aviation audiobooks, both his own and other authors' works.

Hot mess of a book

As a pilot I was interested in the aviation aspects of this book and the author's depictions of flight procedures and air traffic were very accurate, well, except for the depiction of a little Mexican airport within miles of a big Cartel compound with planes just sitting around with the keys hanging on a board in the little office, ready to steal. The story was interesting but often convoluted with too many characters from too many agencies constantly spouting old cliches and being too cute with each other. But the narration was truly the worst I have ever encountered in an audiobook. The voices were just about awful, across the board. A lot of "upspeak." Several of the men sounded like someone talking while holding their nose, the woman from Brooklyn sounded nothing like a Brooklyn accent, the Mexican accents were terrible and several of the women's voices were beyond annoying. People just do not talk like that. It was so bad that I finally quit the audiobook and finished it reading on kindle. Despite the fractured story and plot holes big enough to fly a C130 through, I wanted to know how it ended.

Could not finish

I found the narrator very hard to listen to and the storyline slow and filled with boring side material. Read like a 5th grade book.
