About this listen

Sports Illustrated's chief NBA writer, Jack McCallum, only planned to spend the preseason with the Phoenix Suns as an "assistant coach" - and then write a story about his experiences. Instead, he stayed on with the Suns throughout their exciting and controversial 2005-2006 season. Gaining access to everything from locker-room chats with superstar point guard Steve Nash, to coaches' meetings with maverick coach Mike D'Antoni, McCallum learned what makes this wildly popular, innovative, and international assemblage of talented players and brilliant coaches tick - making Seven Seconds or Less an all-access look at one of the greatest shows in sports.

Anyone considering themselves a Suns fan needs to read/listen to this book. Very informative and fun.

Borderline unlistenable narrator

Truly the worst narrator I’ve ever heard. Speaks in a flat voice throughout the book, clearly not paying any attention to when inflection should be used. So disappointed because I’ve been waiting to read this book for years.

Go Suns!

I have been a Suns fan for many years....good and bad. This was one of the best!! I really enjoyed the commentary on the players and coaches, learning the ins and outs of the relationship between the two. You really need to be a fan of the team to appreciate Mr. McCallums' telling of this story.

Bad narration

Way too many player name mispronunciations. No editing for someone who knows anything about basketball

Robot Narration with Clueless Word Emphasis

The writing is incredible, the book is incredible. The narration is pretty bad.

Names in the story, 2nd nature to NBA fans, are butchered. Emphasis in sentences, especially those intended to be humorous, are absolutely lost on the narrator. Also, there are quotes in the beginning of each chapter representing a key quote within the chapter itself which are cited in the book (ie "blah blah blah." - Person) in which the narrator does not say who says it, so it sounds completely out of context, and doubly weird when repeated later in the chapter.

Please re-record this.

The narration is just awful. The book is great but so much humor is lost. It's just tough to listen to.

What did you love best about Seven Seconds or Less?

A sterling account of the Phoenix Suns season. Any basketball fan would love this audiobook, and I was sad when it came to an end.

don't like the suns very much, but

a great insight and reporting by the author as always, but narrator's performance could've been better

May be interesting only to Suns fans

For me, this was a very long and slow listen. When I first bought it I had hopes of it being a deep dive into the ins and outs of the 7 Seconds or less offense. Instead, what I got was run of the mill basketball highlights, which I could have gotten by simply reading Wikipedia. I also thought I could get some interesting player bios, or a deeper look into their lives. Instead, the author doesn't even begin to skim the surface of some great personalities that made that team exciting and totally different from the league at that time. This might be interesting to you if you're a die-hard Suns fan, or just want to hear playoff game highlights from one particular team in one particular season.
