About this listen

In the year 2514, the only thing more dangerous than the seas is those who sail them.

Life aboard the mercenary ship Man o’ War is rarely dull, as hurricanes, swarms of jellyfish, and man-eating squid pose daily doses of danger. As intrigue and subterfuge from enemies old and new begin to surround its captain, the infamous Miranda Stillwater, even an uncanny sense of direction won’t be enough to help Compass Rose navigate these dangerous straits. As dark secrets bubble to the surface and everything she’s fought so hard for begins to crumble, Rose learns the hard way that she'll have to rely on the only person who can save her from certain disaster. Unfortunately, that person is Compass Rose herself.

This swashbuckling 26th-century high-seas adventure novel is fast-paced, whip-smart, and quirky, yet it manages to deliver a healthy dose of heart, humor, and humility.

Third book please!

This book was better than the first and the ending was such a cliffhanger! I hope there will be a third plus book in the series. The characters are really good and cohesive with each other. The narrator continues to be really good.

Can't wait for the third book!

This story and world are amazing! The relationship between the main characters is so beautifully messy and real.

Another way to enjoy this exceptional book!

Anna Burke's books are some of my favorites - beautifully written, with compelling characters and a story line that makes me care about the characters and their experiences. Sea Wolf is book 2 of Anna's series set almost 500 years in the future, when the current climate emergency has become a climate apocalypse. Each of the books' main characters is expertly brought to life by Annette Romano, and gives the reader a new perspective on them...and the many difficult or dangerous situations they encounter throughout the book.

I've enjoyed listening to this book on my porch, at the beach, and soon in my car during a long drive and happily recommend this version, as well as the hard copy one, for anyone looking for a great tale!

Great story!

I loved this as the followup to Compass Rose. The story and narration extremely well done!

Pretty good

This one was kind of weird. I almost gave up about halfway through because the drug use storyline just seemed so unnecessary and contrived plus some of the relationship issues were just annoying. But it got more interesting after that (though there was yet another unnecessary substance abuse issue added later). I’m really glad I did persevere because the last third of the book was super interesting. I hadn’t been really paying attention to how much was left and was pretty surprised when it ended all of a sudden. I hope there’s a third book out there.

Good story, terrible narration

I enjoy these stories, but I have a real problem with the narrator. Their pacing is very strange, and the accents of certain characters are almost disrespectful. I would love to continue with this series, but I don’t think I can unless there’s a new narrator.

Terrible narration

Like many, I enjoyed this story. Also like many, I found the narration terrible to the point of audibly painful. Regardless of how simple and mundane a sentence was, the voice actor played it like it was the most dramatic thing on earth. Scenes that were actually dramatic ended up blending into the background because everything sounded the same. Definitely a series better read than listened to.

The narration is excruciating

The narration is over exaggerated. In the moments of heavy emotion the characters sound over emotional or petulant. It’s hard to hear the story beyond the narration. It’s rough on the imagination.
