Acerca de esta escucha

The streets of Redwood, California, are being stalked by a brutal serial killer known as The Scattershot Slayer - a tall, lanky man who kidnaps and tortures his victims before creating grotesque pieces of public art with their mutilated bodies. Viola Santoro, a freelance journalist, is tracking Scattershot for her independent investigation in hopes of writing an exposé. After she unwittingly captures the serial killer's attention, she receives the scoop of a lifetime. Scattershot kidnaps Viola, straps her to an iron chair in his dungeon, and forces her to watch his acts of torture - over and over. He doesn't harm her, though. Instead, he gives her what she wants: his motives, his dreams, his life story.

Jon Athan, the provocative author of The Good, the Bad, and the Sadistic, invites you into the broken mind of a disturbed serial killer.

I just love Jon Athan's books. So well written. So well told.
This is about a serial killer dubbed the Scattershot Killer, because his victims have nothing in common. He kidnapps, tortures and kills them. Then displays them for all to see.
Viola is an independent investigative reporter who is chasing him for his story. He finds her and brings her to his crime scenes to watch and learn!
So vile. So evil. So bloody. So painful. So heartwrenching. So entertaining!
Rebekah Nemethy did such a wonderful job narrating this bloody, gorey horror. Her character voices were all so spot on and original. She plowed thru the stench and goo without any trouble at all. Wonderful job. 5 stars all around!

Save the reporter.

Stories where something unspeakable is happening to a woman and she can't tell anyone because no one will believe her are a special kind of terrifying and frustrating and 'Scattershot' is a perfect example. Jon Athan weaves a gruesome and spooky tale that was satisfying from top to bottom. Rebekah Nemethy delivers an excellent and believable performance that kept me coming back for more. If you're into murder/mystery/horror then you won't want to miss this one!

Frustrating and Fantastic

This was an intense ride. I really liked the plot and that is what got me into the book. What kept me interested was the face paced edge of your seat anticipation of what is coming next. Like all Jon Athan's books, the gore and violence level does not disappoint. Definitely for hard core horror fans.

I didn't really care too much for Viola. She was obviously integral to the story, however, like every horror movie I watch I think play stupid games win stupid prizes. She is the ultimate winner in this story. I really did like Scattershot as a villain. He reminded me a bit of Buffalo Bill, really interesting character who really made the story. As the story goes along the two just spiral more and more into chaos until the glorious finale.

Rebekah Nemethy did a great job with the narration. She really nailed the voice for Viola and really added emotion and tension to the telling of the story.

Review for Scattershot by Jon Athan, Narrated by Rebekah Nemethy

This book contains scenes of graphic violence. This book is not intended for those easily offended or appalled. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

For those familiar with Jon Athan’s work, the shock value and stellar writing you have come to expect is there in a big way. In typical Jon Athan fashion, we are introduced to a character who torments our very souls just by thinking of him. The Scattershot Slayer is a deadly, serious, killer with emotions scattered just as much as the buckshot from the shotgun used to kill his first victims.

As the book transgresses, we find out so much information on this sadistic killer. Athan weaves a tale so brutally frightening and shock inducing, it opens up our minds to the depravity of the human existence.

While I imagine reading the novel had its own moments of wonder, the use of Rebekah Nemethy as the narrator for this audiobook was a genius move. Rebekah is a star in this performance, keeping me at the edge of my seat during every brutal scene that was presented. Her cadence and delivery were spot on for the entire production and she chose the perfect voice to bring us the Scattershot Slayer! You could feel the “unrightness” that was dripping from his character while being presented so wonderfully by Nemethy.

The audio was clean and professional and overall a truly enjoyable albeit slightly frightening experience. I will definitely seek out more titles narrated by Rebekah Nemethy. For those who love shock Horror, Jon Athan continues to dominate the genre with his prolific writing skills. If you liked this title, check out “Lovesick” or “Dr. Sadist”!

A Star Performance!

Jon has once again done it. Engrossed me in a world of blood and gore like no other author I know. I am a little disappointed by the ending. Left me wanting more. I’d love to see a sequel with the detective and how he investigated serial killers after Viola. The audio voice was fitting enough for males, although the young, scared female voices are a bit strained and it took me out of the moment. Overall I loved it, but the ending wasn’t as satisfying as I thought it would be.

I love Mr Athan!

I was hooked The Book was incredibly detailed. While the descriptions of torture scenes were vivid, i was able to appreciate the detail that went into them.

Jon Athan is the king of gruesome violence. His books make me listen straight through to the end waiting to see what happens next. This book was no different. Jon has quite an imagination of making public art with pieces of mutilated bodies. Wow. If you like horror, I highly recommend this and any of Jon Athan’s books.

Rebekah Nemethy did a great job with the narration. I received this free copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I did not like this story. The premise was unrealistic. Everyone but the killer was incompetent. There was no character development. The plot was repetitive and predictable.

Let me save you the credit. Scattershot kidnaps protagonist, kills someone, protagonist wakes up at home. Nobody believes her. Rinse and repeat.

The narrator made an effort. I will concede that, but her voices were ridiculous and took away from my ability to enjoy the story. Sorry Ms Nemethy, but they were just bad.

I finished the story because I didn't want to not finish it, not because I wanted to hear it. as a lover of splatterpunk, that says a lot.

Just don't.
