Editorial reviews

Author and narrator Brown is a very old-fashioned kind of writer; her intent is to entertain the reader. Brown writes well-crafted, accessible, short tales. And like the hardworking writers of yesteryear, Brown travels the country to share her prose with delighted audiences. Through her extensive touring, Brown has become a seasoned storyteller. Brown’s scary stories are truly scary despite being appropriate for young listeners as well as older ones. Brown has a sweet voice with a flexible range. She is able to speak through a wide variety of characters. Each environment is carefully rendered by word and by voice, and the creepy and/or violent occurrences are likely to haunt any listener.

I liked it

it fits right in with my collection of haunted short stories. I also liked the narrator.

More interesting than scary

I really enjoyed listening to the stories. They were not uncomfortably frightening, but entertaining nonetheless.

Great narration, but a bit meandering, fantastic and dark.

I like ghost stories in which strange happenings tell a story with a lesson for readers. I think the best folklore is also simple and short, such as The Scary Stories Trilogy (Alvin Schwartz, on Audible), 101 Scary Stories to Read in Bed Tonight (Lane Loomis, on Audible), The Thing at The Foot of The Bed (Maria Leach), Haunted Heartland/Haunted Hoosiers (on Audible), and many Urban Legend/Scary Stories compilations. This book, “Scary Stories for All Ages,” has only two chapters. Both are long, meandering, and full of twists and turns that only left me confused, not on the edge of my seat. It was as though the author was considering going several different ways with the story, and made it up as she went along, without pruning the connections. Not great scary stories for bedtime but possibly good for around a campfire, because the spooky details and excellent narration might suffice to keep kids with pretty good attention spans engaged. These might be good to keep an Elementary school class quiet during lunchtime. They’re definitely better suited to children and young adolescents than teens and adults. The pleasant, lilting Southern delivery adds a little more spookiness, as though these things happen every day, in those parts, and could possibly happen to you!

Poor title

Not what I was expecting for "Scary" stories, was expecting something with alot more adrenaline.
