About this listen

Verona is a bottom feeder. She is the one mer in her clan who is considered the ugliest and least intelligent. Growing up with constant bullying and abuse wasn't the worst of what her kind had in store for her. At 17 years old, she must now endure The Reckoning.

The scales will measure her worth to her clan. Will she endure 30 days as a land-walker to gather information and knowledge to appease her clan and return a valued member? Will she wait three years, until she is 20, and find a mer of her kind to accept her and marry her? Or will she suffer exile for the rest of her life?

All summer long, join the authors of the Falling in Deep Collection for unique tales of creatures from the deep! From mermaids to sirens, Miami to Athens, dark paranormal romance to contemporary stories with steam to folktales, the 15 award-winning and best-selling authors of the Falling in Deep Collection are bringing you mermaid tales like you've never seen before.

Scales

A beautiful mermaid tries to survive without her merpeople. This story is an enjoyable romp in the ocean's waves!

I have no idea what was even going on in this book, the characters were terrible, the story was terrible and just the whole thing was a big pile of NO. the audiobook narrator was not terrible though, that was the only decent thing about this book... yeah, would 100 percent not recommend this to anyone. sorry.

Ethereal story and vocals

Listening to Scales was just the sort of short fiction experience I was looking for. Sometimes a bit of short fiction is what I want from a listen and this gave me what I wanted. I'm not usually interested in the young adult fantasy genre, but something about this YA title pulled me in. Not for nothing, my enjoyment of this title was due in large part by the narrator. The narrator Ioanna Malandrenias, has such a rich voice, that emotes vulnerability and the sensual allure of the sea. There was so much complexity in the narration that it really painted a beautiful picture with the author's words. I'd certainly listen to this one again and I'd love to see more from both author and narrator. Do I smell a sequel?

Very boring

This book was too boring to read. I never put a book down but I was just on the edge of giving up. I didn't like the characters nor the story line. I tried to like it.
