About this listen

Acclaimed author of the Parents’ Choice Jim & Me, Dan Gutman adds a fictional twist to the true story of pitching legend “Satchel” Paige. After facing a flamethrowing Little League hurler, 13-year-old “Stosh” Stoshack time-travels back to 1942 to join Satchel on an unforgettable road trip to the Negro League World Series. With nobody out and the series on the line, Stosh watches as Old Satch intentionally walks three straight batters, waves all but his catcher off the field, and then challenges the best hitter in baseball.

A fun listen

It was just a fun baseball story. If you like baseball and remember what it was like to be a kid, it's a fun listen even for an adult.

what a great story

a few from this series I like, the rest I downright enjoy. (this is mom reviewing) this is now one of my favorites from this series. it's so hard to truly pick a favorite, but this is definitely up there. so many aspects of this one make it unique to the others, but I think the thing I loved most about it was just how fun it was! I learned several unexpected things in this one and it just felt like a fun vacation all the way through. highly recommended.

Amazing!!

I was expecting a biography of some sorts but what I got was a chance to go back in time to being 11yrs old with a wild imagination and a deep love for baseball. What a fantastic story and the story teller was wonderful. I can’t say enough about how much this book means to me now. I absolutely recommend this story

Great story!

I listened to this with my boys, and it's one of their favorites in this series. Gutman's storyline repeats through these books, but we learned about baseball history and wanted the story to go on when it was done.

Thoroughly enjoyed it!

My son and I read the first part and listened to the last. The reader brought SO MUCH life to the characters, I want to listen to it again through his storytelling.
