Publisher's summary

The first in a sexy contemporary romance series from New York Times best-selling author Lexi Blake.

Riley Lawless believes the CEO of StratCast orchestrated his parents' murder 20 years ago to steal his father's software program. And there's only one way he can find some solid evidence - and wreak his vengeance.

Heir to the StratCast legacy, Ellie Stratton hires a new attorney to handle a delicate business matter - and she's shocked by her attraction to him. Over the course of a few weeks, Riley becomes her lover, her friend, her everything.

But when her life is threatened, Ellie discovers that Riley is more obsessed with settling an old score than in the love she thought they were building. And Riley must choose between a revenge he's prepared for all his life and the woman he's sure he can't live without.

Fell flat

I have downloaded this twice before and could only get through 1 chapter of the narration both times. I finally forced myself to listen because I am finally listening to all of Lexi’s book in suggested reading order. I have to say I am disappointed that the narrator does not match the storyline and that the usual balance of humor and drama were missing.

Good book, Bad narration

I think this girl thinks she is reading a childrens book in a library.
which is creepy when she is using adult words
narration makes this book creepy
worth reading but dont listen to it.

Bad narration

Love all of Lexi’s books. This narrator is awful for this series. I wish they’d start over with a new narrator

Loved the story, couldn't listen to it though

The story is great, I enjoy Lexi Blake and was interested in this trilogy after the characters were introduced in the Masters and Mercenaries series. Really tried to like the audio version, but they used a different narrator for this than in the parent series. I got to chapter 7 and couldn't take it a anymore. Ms. Shawnee's tone of voice sounded like a librarian reading to kindergartners. Not appropriate for a Lexi Blake book. I'm sure she would be perfect for comedy, satire, or tongue in cheek stories, but NOT in this genre. I'm finishing the book by actually reading it.

Great Start to an amazing series!!!

This is book one in this new series by Lexi Blake although we do get a McKay-Taggert which come from the Masters & Mercenaries series, and I was on the edge of my seat for most of this one.

I loved Riley and Ellie together. The fact that she was able to change how Riley thinks had me swooning.

In this book we get the story of why the Lawless siblings are who they are and some of the mystery is solved but in that solution we get an even deeper mystery and new secrets.

The players change and love is found.

I highly recommend this book!!!

Excellent book. Not good narration

This book is so good but the narration just doesn’t work. No offense to the narrator. She may work for other books - just not this series.

My advice - listen to the sample. If you think you can tolerate the voice, absolutely buy it. Excellent story and writing.

A Good Ruthless

Spoiler Ahead This was the first book in a new series by one of my favorite author's. The Lawless siblings are bound by vengeance Drew, Riley Bran and Mia who is married to Case Taggart lost their parents twenty year ago when they were killed by Ellie Stratton's father and his business partners. When Ellie needs a new lawyer to buy out her father's partner she hires Riley Lawless. Riley didn't count on Ellie being so attractive and him wanting to get into her pants. I really liked Ellie she was a strong female who has been through a lot her father who was cruel and never loved her she had a husband who cheated on her with her sister Sherry who I couldn't stand and in her divorce she had to pay her husband ten million dollar and he was still asking her for money and she had a best friend Lily who I just knew betrayed her. As Riley learns for about her he realizes that she is nothing like her father and he tries to soften the blow to her what they didn't count on is her father's partner Steven knowing who Riley was. In this book we get to know the Lawless siblings Drew and Riley grew up in a group home and when Drew aged out Riley was jumped and suffers nightmares. Bran also had it bad being moved from home to home he has a problem with his temper and always getting into fights. Mia who was adopted by a loving couple is the voice of reason to her brother's. When Ellie is arrested for a crime that she didn't commit and she finds out was Riley did she wants nothing to do with him, but she has nothing and she needs him and his family to help her prove that it was not her. I felt bad that everyone in Ellie's life has betrayed her even her best friend and I think Riley felt bad about that also that's why he stood up to Drew and choose her over getting even or his family and in her own way Ellie helped each brother's. I am still on the fence about Hatch their father's friend although he said that he was not the fourth partner. This was a really good book with the suspense that love when reading Lexi's books this book was well written and read as I listened to it on audio. I also love the narrators voice. I am looking forward to reading or listening to the next book in this series. Will Bran found the one?

Very intriguing & sexy romantic mystery

Love the fact this is a branch-off trilogy from the Masters & Mercenaries super hot series. The Lawless family caught our attention in that series and has continued with a great murder mystery to solve, while some very sexy rich brothers find their matches. The only thing is the narrator wasn’t good for this trilogy, too bad they didn’t keep a Ryan West as a narrator.
