Love a good What-If kind of story

Utterly incredible and what intrigue! A story where explorers and experts act upon the possibility that the Roman Empire used a lava tube as an underground roadway system - as a Roman history lover and historical fiction writer, this story had my attention and was listened to in two days.

The only drawback is that the narration was done with virtual voice; it somewhat dulled the story, unfortunately.

The story itself is good, I like historical fiction but couldn't fully get into the artifical reading of the book.

I don't care for "virtual voice", I'm old fashioned in that I like to hear the human inflections and emotions while listening to a story.

Spoiler Alert

Too many characters with foreign names that were hard to remember. Also, the author never resolved the question of whose few-hundred year old male body they found early on in the tube. The end left me with unanswered questions about Agrippa and the tube that led to Rome.

Not a fan of the virtual voice

Pay your actors/voice tallent and stop wasting your money on the AI crap. You need a better agent as an author if this is the best you're getting at the moment.

Virtual voice. Don’t listen!

The story is good mind candy. However, virtual voice absolutely slaughters the text. It is soulless. It lacks depth. It has no overtones or undertones. And on top of all of that, it mispronounces various words in different ways throughout the book.

AI Voice is a “NO” from me

I thought I would give a story that has an AI narrator a chance and I am sorry I did. The voice was not engaging, did not rise or fall at the appropriate moments and was so awkward, I struggled greatly listening to the story. I listened to the end, as I hate to leave a good story in the middle, but it was painful. I will avoid AI narrators in the future!

AI voice ruined the book

I don’t think I would have liked this book anyway, but AI voice is so incredibly bad, that I can’t believe they released it. It completely destroyed the book. Mispronouncing words, pausing in weird places, turning 2 syllable words into one word, not pausing when it should. I could keep going. I couldn’t suspend disbelief long enough to enjoy the book once I got about halfway through it. If you think this might be your thing, read it. Don’t even consider listening to the Audible version.
