About this listen

The Dawn Alliance holds Novograd in a steel fist, protected by a battle fleet and an armored space station. The factories of Novograd are the key to the war. Whoever controls the planet controls the Green Zone - and that means the station must be destroyed.

The station will be a tough nut to crack, but Tom Thrush has a plan. The key to cracking a nut is to bring a big enough hammer. There’s a crippled Dawn Alliance battleship limping home from the Battle of New Panama. His plan is simple: Board the battleship, take control, and use it as a Trojan horse in a desperate assault on the station.

All he has to do is find the battleship in the trackless wastes of hyperspace, fight his way onboard, take over, and set course for Novograd.

With a little luck, a lot of courage, and an iron will, the station will fall - and the real battle will begin.

Exactly what I’ve been looking for

Perfect combination of great protagonists and horrible antagonists. Derring do and swashbuckling at its best.

Great Series

This ongoing story will stay with you.
The books are well written and the narration is spot on.
I think one of the best parts is when Tom stands up for the people and puts down the mad woman who thinks everyone is a traitor no matter what the people are put through!

The Green Zone War series was excellent

The first thing that stood out to me was that this is the first time I've listened to any Sci-Fi with an Indigeound protagonist and that alone got me hooked. I was expecting the same old stereotypes, instead, I found that storyline really interesting and helped me connect with Tom. This plot point gets lost towards the end of the series, but it was really well done. I don't want to make it seem like this was all about who he was racially but it was a key point in the story, and it worked well - I wanted more.
The second thing that stood out to me was how few things worked out in the last second. I am used to something miraculous happening and our hero saving the day - there's a bit of that here in a general sense, but Tom and his crew are all fallible, and often don't save the moment, until they do. I liked that crappy things happened to these people, and some break, others take some time to find their footing again - this seemed real to me.
The battles were well told, I bought into them - I am not sure about windows on spaceships but I still liked all the action. The bad guys seemed a little lazily written, like dust off any old 'Muslims' are bad, people from the East are really brutal stereotypes, so this was weak for me - but in the end, I kind of didn't care about the bad guys, I wanted to know what Tom and his spacers would do, how the militia would help or hurt the cause.
I liked this series and part of me wanted it to end differently, with a big tidy bow on the story but that's not what I got, now I keep imagining my own continuation and I don't think I mind it much. I recommend, it'll meet that military sci-fi itch, good narrative and, some busting or at least reshaping of some of those conventions that keep us coming back to these kinds of books.
