Interesting characters

The narrator is pretty good especially with dialogue. It makes the story a very easy listen.

The story dwells a lot on the fact that military working dogs are definitely NOT pets. It shows that good intentions do not always produce good handlers, and good handlers with continued training is what they need most. This is for the benefit of all concerned.

The story is also about human trafficking, abuse, and PTSD. It provides some good coping techniques but is not heavy on these things. As usual, Kendig’s story brings to light some serious issues within a fictional story that is not overly heavy.

I liked the Christian elements but sometimes found it too heavy handed. The best use of the Bible verses quoted were ones that truly helped the characters reprogram their negative thought patterns. The book became overly “spiritualized” when the bullets missed because “God was on their side.” It was a bit too much. These kinds of phrases are mainly stated at the climax of the action. I believe miracles happen but maybe should be alluded to just one time per book or in a more subtle way.

I liked the suggestion that when the protagonist prayed, he felt peace rather than the time he said God spoke to him specifically to get married “whenever he was ready.” The former is better because it gives courage regardless of outcome and is more in line with most of our experiences with prayer and God. Most of us don’t experience specifics.

I liked how the romance showed how the two complemented and helped each other. Each had an element that the other needed. The characters did grow which was good. I liked hearing a little bit about the characters in past books as well.

Exciting

I really enjoy these military working dog books. They are exciting & the good guys mail or female + dog always win with the help of God. Not too religious but just enough to get the point across & empasize God’s redeeming glory.

Too preachy..

I realize this was classified as a “Christian” book, So were the first two books. References to religion were intermittent and tolerable. Not so in this book. Seems like.every time the female lead POV was narrated religious references were in every other sentence. I liked the story overall but it was tough to finish.
