Entertaining

I’ve been lucky enough to visit just about every place in this book, and I enjoyed the walk down memory lane.

I've read the "real" book twice, and thought I would enjoy hearing Rick telling his stories and I did! But the recording quality is not great... still, not bad for 6 bucks!

Audio is poor, stories retold in other audible book

1. The audio is poor. You have to adjust your bass to get it beyond annoying to bearable.
2. After 25 years of travel, you challenge your listeners to meet locals, yet you stick with friends you made on your first journeys. That’s great, but can’t you add to your friend base and maybe add some new adventures as well? There are quite a few stories that are new, of course, but those 4-5 stories that I’m sure are quite treasured are repeated in at least two of the three books he currently has on audible.
3. In response to the review that claims Rick condescends in this book, I can’t say that I felt the same. I felt it was a typical Rick Steves book, and his telling here has the same feel as his many television shows.

I really do hope Rick writes another book like “For The Love of Europe,” with different cities, sites, and adventures! I’ve listened to that book so many times I could probably recite it lol! (I’m in the car for work about 60 hours per week delivering and earning money to visit Europe again)

The Real Rick Steves

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book for folks that are interested in purchasing any of his other travel books, as this book will really puts a lot of what he says in perspective. I kind of wish I had read this book before I even started reading his travel guides and it would have made a little more sense on why he travels the way he does, and thinks the way he does as far as traveling is concerned, and why he provides his readers with certain recommendations in his travel guides. After listening to this audiobook it will be certain that you won't make many traveling mistakes Rick did in his earlier years. I titled my review as the Real Rick Steves because I think you will get to know him a lot more after listening to this audiobook.

What did you like best about this story?

I loved all the stories and adventures he experienced which is most of the book :)

What about Rick Steves’s performance did you like?

His narration was spot on and so Rick Steves if you know how quirky he can be.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but it took me 2 separate sittings.

Any additional comments?

There were a few times I completely lost interest in part of the storytelling but it was only about 10 minutes at a time. But, overall, I loved the book and plan to listen to it again right before I go to Europe.

Master Story Teller

I have been a fan of Rick Steves for years watching his shows and reading his other books. This book was unique and that he was telling the story not from a travel writer but from a wide-eyed innocent youth visiting Europe for the first time. Bravo.
