About this listen

Movie star 102: The headlines are never what they seem.

Quellcrist wasn't new to fame or the effect it had on a relationship. He'd been married in the spotlight for as long as he'd been famous. But that was before Hale. He knew it was going to test him, but even he hadn't known the toll that months apart would take on his fledgling relationship.

Long days of shooting, different time zones, calls every day dwindled to days without calls, and rumors were all over the rags. Through it all Quell had to battle his own worst enemy, but he didn't know how to win against something inside him. Depression ate him whole, and pain took over.

There was so much more at stake than losing his boyfriend; he was losing his best friend. His lifeline, the love of his life. Was there any way to come back from the damage done?

Can they rewrite their ending?

Contains mature themes.

This book / series is wonderfully written!

In typical JR Gray style, this 2nd book is a continuation of Quell’s struggle with his mental health / depression and the deep love and friendship between him and Hale. The series is a real, heart-wrenching but also heart-warming journey and I’m going directly to Unwritten for the conclusion. I am not fond of the narrators, however the books are so good I can overlook them.

Frustrating but for a good reason

As someone who deals with depression with major episodes, it all makes sense. Sure, everyone can be upset because they don’t understand why things won’t just work themselves out, but depression can be crippling. And not just stay in the bed a couple days. Depression can be sabotaging everything in your life because you don’t feel worthy. So to be able to experience that layer made the book so much more interesting to listen to.

Topic of depression

I liked this story. It was written pretty well and performed well. As a lifelong sufferer of depression I liked the way the topic was presented and discussed. It gave a glimpse of how depression can affect a relationship. Thank you

Great depiction of hard won love

Absolutely loved the story and the development of the characters from the equally stunning first book continues here. Wonderful and accurate dive into living with depression. The voice actors were perfect but with these two I expect nothing less. Definitely has become a favorite.

Romantic Adrenaline..

Romantic adrenaline meets emotionality mixed with psychological realism and erotic electricity. I’m so glad I discovered this series and author. So very entertaining and affirming and touching. Not perfect. What is? Sometimes wordy, stretched out and repetitive while mirroring the way we humans replay our inner monologues. Love the chemistry between the lovers and all the characters. Had me crying and bulging and has me literally having super hot dreams at night too! Also feels serendipitous as I too face creative highs and lows along with depression, anxiety, addictions while searching for a soulmate. Thank you. ;)

Honest and Touching

Wonderful performances, great storyline. Dealing with very difficult subject matter is such an honest way.

One person’s clear and unambiguous struggles…

…with anxiety, substance abuse, depression, and sexual identity /self acceptance are very real and palpable concepts for many of us. But, as much as I’ve come to care about these characters, sometimes their sinking into these whirling bouts of self doubt and depression (and the author’s willingness to allow them to luxuriate there, seemingly, indefinitely, but certainly for long stretches of time) really made this a tough read for me. And it detracted from their overall love story, which was unique, compelling and refreshing—but maybe that’s the point about having an honest conversation about depression and how it is chronically misunderstood by so many. It IS a disease. But, I dunno. If you’re looking to be uplifted in a M-M romance, this will be a tough slog for some, especially if you’re not conversant in the underlying themes—the resilience of the characters does not, for me, manifest satisfactorily until late in the third act. And, it took too long to get there in my opinion. Performances were great, however, as in the first series. 3/5.
