Publisher's summary

The New York Times best-selling author of Darwin’s Doubt presents groundbreaking scientific evidence of the existence of God, based on breakthroughs in physics, cosmology, and biology.

Beginning in the late 19th century, many intellectuals began to insist that scientific knowledge conflicts with traditional theistic belief - that science and belief in God are “at war”. Philosopher of science Stephen Meyer challenges this view by examining three scientific discoveries with decidedly theistic implications. Building on the case for the intelligent design of life that he developed in Signature in the Cell and Darwin’s Doubt, Meyer demonstrates how discoveries in cosmology and physics coupled with those in biology help to establish the identity of the designing intelligence behind life and the universe.

Meyer argues that theism - with its affirmation of a transcendent, intelligent and active creator - best explains the evidence we have concerning biological and cosmological origins. Previously Meyer refrained from attempting to answer questions about “who” might have designed life. Now he provides an evidence-based answer to perhaps the ultimate mystery of the universe. In so doing, he reveals a stunning conclusion: the data support not just the existence of an intelligent designer of some kind - but the existence of a personal God.

Heady and Thoughtful

Deep and thoughtful review of the current atheistic materialism that fills our scientific and popular culture. Scientifically and mathematically sound reasoning for a theistic view of the beginning of our universe.

Technical but but very well argued

I have read some of the usual suspect authors in popular physics, Green, Carroll, Ravoilli, Hawking and a few others. I am admittedly an ignorant non-scientist. However even my poor brain has been able to deduce that the popularization of this subject has lead the public to believe an infinite Multiverse is not only possible but probable. That we are the result of Quantum fluctuations and Universal Wave Function collapse not the creation of a Creator.
The God Hypothesis breaks this argument down in scientific and rational terms and analysis exposing it and the “scientists” that promote it as deeply problematic. It can be a daunting read but I found it worth it. Believe in God, don’t believe in God this is a good read on the subject for anyone who has an interest in science.

Powerful evidence based challenge to materialistic atheism

Stephen Meyers carefully and competently builds his thesis for theism, using key aspects of information theory and the rules of logical inference. He exposes the tunnel vision and arrogance of a culture of materialistic atheism. His thesis in no way contradicts what is actually known about cosmology or biological evolution, but rather uses both to support his thesis. His book should help place intelligent design at the table of viable, respectable hypotheses for the origin of the universe and life.

Excellent

A bit of a slow start in my opinion, but really interesting and insightful. I find his arguments to be convincing.

Worth a second listen.

The varying theories abutted to the things known brought to light the inconsistencies in the way some notable physicists have tweaked information in efforts to affirm their flawed theories. This book is worthy of a second read in the future.

I’m impressed

I’m a molecular biologist and have had these questions since my time in school. Of course it’s hard to talk to other scientists, which is a shame. I think this author does a very good job, without getting too heady. He presents a case for design in creation based in the latest science. Philosophically, he leaves you with some pondering to do for sure.

The Best Explanation

Meyers asks the reader to consider the evidence, the arguments, and consider honestly what is the best explanation for our existence.

So much to think about

What a detailed explanation of all sides of this discussion. This book gives solid explanations for how and why a belief in a God outside the realm of nature can be the best explanation of what we see in nature.
