About this listen

As a favor to her brother, Marisha Wheatcraft joins Tucker and Josey at a Montana ski resort for their honeymoon. Since Tucker can no longer ski, Marisha is happy to be Josey’s partner on the slopes.

Jake Sweeney is a little bitter from being left at the altar and having to care for his father who has always told him he’s worthless. When he runs into Marisha and Tucker, long-lost friends from his teen years in Texas, he’s thrilled to see them at the resort where he works, especially Marisha who has grown into a beautiful and sassy woman.

Marisha feels as if her childhood dreams are finally coming true, but Jake sees her as a wealthy and professional woman who could do much better than him. While a one-night stand brings them closer, words spoken in public will tear them apart. When an avalanche hits the slopes, lives are on the line, and all hope of love could be lost for them both if they are not rescued.

Exciting and romantic!

Now this is exactly what I love. A good romance and a good plot I can sink my teeth into! Stacy Eaton adds Marisha's story to the Heal Me series and it's the perfect mix of childhood crush collides with chance meeting. Marisha is on Tucker's honeymoon with him. Since he can no longer ski due to his accident, she agrees to go along being his wife's ski partner. Little did she know how this vacation would change her life. Bumping into Jake was not only a surprise but made her heart skip. Jake has no intention of getting involved in a relationship. After being left at the alter, his heart is too bruised, but there is something about Marisha that calls to him. Will her secret childhood crush finally come true? And what consequences will she incur getting her wish? This is a fun romance, taking a look back into Marisha's teen dreams, but then looking ahead to her future. Jake can be a little bull headed, but circumstances prove they are meant to be. Loved the excitement and love this one brings!

MK Blackwood and Justin Hale bring this gem alive with a fabulous narrations. Blackwood dials into Marisha, both yesterday and today, letting us feel her angst and thrills of being in love. She also brings all the emotions into the tragedy that could have happened! I felt it all. Hale finds the essence of Jake as he tries to deal with his new found feelings and trust. It's tough, but Hale brings out all the turmoil he feels and works through it. This is a fun performance and great addition to the series.

Marina & Jake

I love these characters! Their stories are individualized, but we get to re-visit those from previously. Marina and Jake are so real, facing similar emotions we all deal with.

Instalove

This book was really about the instant love the two main characters had for each other after meeting again fir anywhere from 10-16 years (I heard both). Their relationship escalated quickly and they had the addition of the H's stubborn and bitter father. There was action and danger and like the other books in the series a main character gets injured with lingering consequences. I felt that the relationship happened too fast and the characters were too forgiving of bad behavior of secondary characters.

A disappointment

I don't know how this can be described as a romance when it leaves you depressed and unfulfilled. The previous books in this series are filled with sweet romance but this fell apart almost right from the start. For me it's a rage read with a MMC who is thoroughly despicable and a FMC with a backbone and great self-image, until she caves right at the end. Tucker and Josey are newlyweds who have fought through their challenges to make it to the altar and Tucker's sister, Marisha, comes along on the honeymoon. She's there because Tucker sustained a devastating injury while working as a policeman and even though he's recovering the use of his legs, he still can't take his wife skiing. Marisha and Josey may be sisters-in-law, but they're already sisters. When they're checking into their hotel, Marisha's eyes fall on someone she recognizes and she's stunned to see that it's Jake, Tucker's best friend, and her childhood crush. This is a great premise that should have been a wonderful story, but I believe that the author wanted to go for edginess and it didn't work. Jake's history of love matches isn't full of successes. When Sandra left him at the altar he closed off his heart to love. He is done trying to find love, but love may have just found him in the person of Marisha. You would think they would make the perfect couple but you would be wrong. With a terrible and cruel attitude, Jake turns on Marisha after they've spent a night together. There's an implication of another woman and he constantly refers to her as a One Night Stand. I have to admit that I was so done with Jake by the third or fourth time he shoved her away, that it became impossible for them to have a HEA. The ending was the worst part of the story. After Jake kicked her out of his hospital room, even after she had just saved his life, he tells her he wants nothing to do with her and to just go away. She goes back to her life in New York, but struggles with work and attitude, so she makes plans to go back to Texas, home to her brother and sister-in-law. What she doesn't expect is to encounter Jake at the ranch. Yes, his father has come to work for Tucker, but there's no mention made of Jake coming to visit his father or any other reason for him to leave Montana and go to Texas. Of course, while he's there, he and Marisha run into each other and even though gut-wrenching sorrow had plagued Marisha for months, less than 5 minutes after seeing him, she runs into his arms...why not!? That poor excuse for a man didn't even grovel! Grovel? How about a sincere apology and not a "sorry, I think I'm going to kiss you" drivel. I said that this became a rage read and it did! I cannot stand weak women and overbearing men. The supposed happy ending is anything but. It gives the author a chance to try to tie things up in a neat little bow, but it didn't work. I wish I weren't so disappointed in this book, but this is my honest reaction.
The narration is very well-done by M K Blackwood and Justin Hale. Their dynamic voices and perfect pacing bring each of the characters to life.

My favourite...

Marisha + Jake = chemistry, heat, heart, healing and emotion. The narration was spot on giving dimension to an entertaining story.

Attitude with a good heart

when I first started listening to this book I didn't think I was gonna like Marisha. she had a little bit of mean girl/entitled vibe. but she grew on me with her huge heart and I really enjoyed this book. And being from Texas, the accents weren't cheesy so that was a plus!
