Luis A. Miranda Jr.
Acerca de esta escucha
Essential listening from an expert voice: Luis A. Miranda Jr.’s personal and political memoir reveals a deep understanding of Latino culture and how to build community to change our world for the better.
A veteran of New York and national politics, Luis Miranda embodies the relentless spirit of progress of American immigrants.
There is no one on the Latino, New York, and national political scene with the breadth of experience, passion, and storytelling charm of Luis Miranda. In Relentless, he shares a fascinating narrative of his life and career—from his early days as a radically minded Puerto Rican activist to his decades of political advice and problem-solving.
Miranda recounts the thrill of the ascendency of Hamilton, created by his son Lin-Manuel, and he details the suffering after the devastation of Puerto Rico by Hurricane Maria. Amid the triumphs and challenges, Miranda examines what his experience reveals about our ever-changing politics, demographics, and society.

“Luis Miranda’s memoir transcends politics—it’s a deeply personal reflection on identity, resilience, and the pursuit of justice. Written with warmth, wisdom and vivid storytelling, Luis invites readers to witness his evolution as a leader who defies expectations and inspires others to embrace their own stories. Relentless challenges us to redefine our understanding of Latino representation in the American political landscape.”—Speaker Nancy Pelosi
“Some people say that New York politics is a contact sport. In a way, they are right. When you live side by side, that contact builds community. You live, work, and dream together. You fight for a better future together. That’s what Luis Miranda understood from the moment he arrived in NYC. I saw it firsthand when I was arrested fighting side by side for peace in Vieques or when I launched my presidential exploratory committee. If you want to know how to bring people together—if you want to build a movement from the streets to City Hall and the statehouse—read this book.”—Reverend Al Sharpton
"Many have only just woken up to the political power of Latino voters. For decades I have watched as Luis Miranda dedicated his career to building and marshaling that power. He doesn’t just speak to these voters; he feels it in his heart and soul. When you go fight for the working families of this country, you want Luis Miranda right by your side.”—Hillary Rodham Clinton, former First Lady, US Senator, and Secretary of State

The special treat is listening to Luis read it himself. He is frank, honest, and funny. He never tries to mask weaknesses of movements he’s been a part of, but like a skilled chess player he moves strategically to help them correct and succeed. His ability to translate boring statistics and complex political narratives into a must-see “novella” is a holy grail politicians seek.
His pride and relentless pursuit for the advancement, enrichment and uplifting of all of his communities should be an example for all who seek any form of public service,,, as it was for me.

This is a fantastic book. Luis is an excellent storyteller. The chapter that most resonated with me was "Getting School.” My mom was one of the parent association presidents at one of the schools in Washington Heights. She was one of many parent founding members of the United Council of Parents in NY School District 6. I remember the voter registration drives, school board meetings, planning meetings at Luis’ house, and social gatherings at the ACDP. Luis and others along the way we're role model that helped shape my future dedicated to a life of service. I hope people who read this book use what they learn make the world a better place for Latinos and all communities.
