About this listen

Retail never changes, no matter the system used to run it.

When Arthur Clark, wage slave and bookworm, takes a bat to the head, he assumes his days of dreary counter minding are over. Instead, a dragon who calls herself a goddess gives him an offer he can't refuse. The job is simple on the surface, manage a store in an apocalyptic city and bring her currency to the people there.

Upon arrival at his new home, he finds himself with little more than the clothes on his back and the equivalent of a child's lemonade stand.

Alone in an unfamiliar world, Arthur must manage his store, collect new employees, and hunt down his own merchandise. All in a city filled with a variety of threats, both human and not.

With taxes owed to the goddess, he'll need to deal with all types to keep up with his bottom line. Wannabe knights, starving survivors, and gangsters who watched too many mafia movies are only a few of the new customers who'll grace his doorstep. Now all he needs to do is to avoid being taken over long enough to call himself an actual manager . . .

this was a great book I'm glad I got it. I just bought the second one and I can't wait to get into it. I I thought the narrator was good and the story kept me interested and wanting more. I look forward to reading more books from this author

I love this story

This is one of those things where it has great potential but it's something that I'm not going to keep in My Library by this book or wait for the publisher's pack it's just has great structure but something about it just was off

Mixed feelings on potential story

A fun story that's a different take on the litRPG Apocalypse stories, but still manages to feel like one. The narration is clean, the story works well, and Arthur (the MC) is super-relatable as a retail wage-worker who's killed, then reincarnated as...a retail wage-worker. Poor guy! Give it a listen!

Setting up the Store

The story feels a bit off I'm not sure how to explain properly it just that the characters seem one dimensional and the MC is a normal guy if a bit of a cowardly sort.

Good performance by Narratior

i really wanted to like this book. and i did. i think? i'm not sure.

I think the problem is that there are so many cool things happening in this book, so many interesting concepts and characters and events. and yet i didn't get attached to any of it. Many of the characters were VERY COOL, but.. they never felt real. i was never afraid for Arthur, or anxious, or happy. i did get annoyed once, but it was more that i was annoyed at the direction i thought the author was going to take the story, rather than annoyed at character or their decision.

Minor spoilers ahead:

Otherwise, the giant nerd in me was a little disappointed that, while The Store was a main part of the story... commerce wasn't. not really. When the story actually focused on the store, it was more on what magical powers the store had, and less on the actual buying and selling of items and building an economy.

Also, i'm with Arthur in not understanding how this new currency is ever going to be self-sustaining. maybe i'll get the next book to just find out if they answer that question.

Should have been good

pretty good.

I liked the boom a lot, though it's more fantasy than litrpg, the charecter idea of a non overpowered person is great and I look forward to reading the next one when it comes out, I hope it's multiple books

great setup to an interesting story

I did not know how to feel about this book at first but it improved greatly over the course of it and I ended up enjoying it greatly. I would recommend if u like she keep stories mixed with a little action.

pretty good actually

I really enjoyed the focus of the shop as opposed to random leveling up. A breath of fresh air in the litRPG genre.

A new litRPG take.
