Acerca de esta escucha

His introduction begins, "Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood."

This charge from Acts 20:28 only is the beginning of a solemn and overarching task to be personally involved and disciple all of your congregants. Richard Baxter's plea for shepherding his flock continues with a charge to pastors to verify their own spiritual walk and then walks them through various disciplines, strategies and goals to guide and instruct their congregation.

A book that has been treasured by pastors for years and is worth it's weight in gold for those willing to take and apply the truth in it!
my only critique of this version is in the formatting it would be nice to have the ability to return was section without having to search the entire 60-90 minute chapter

an absolute must read

Pastors of all stages in their ministry need insight-what greater insight can we get than from the puritans. Baxter nails it.
Spurgeon’s, “Lectures To My Students,” is also a great read.
Simon Vances narration sounds natural, doesn’t sound like he’s reading. Great job.
“As a dying man before dying men...”

A must read for pastor/elders

In the preface it was noted this could be written with letters of gold. I have to agree on that. This book is written to pastors and those who aspire to be so with practical and convicting insight. It’s definitely not light reading (listening) but worth the time. The reader does an outstanding job. Definitely a five star book.

After reading this book (and even while reading it) I feel like I was given a stick to fight a dragon, told to fight the Russian from Rocky 4 after eating a dozen donuts, and asked to hold my breath after being punched in the gut...I was not prepared, nor do I think I could have been.

Honestly, this is one of the few books I definitely need to read again in the future...it did not sink deep enough into my hard heart, did not sharpen enough my dull mind, and did not take a deep enough root in my dry soul.

In other words: I am the problem when trying to read this book.

Baxter has made me feel as if I only play at being a pastor, and as if my seriousness of heart and mind in the role have been nothing but shallow water for toddlers to splash in.

May the Lord help me have even a fraction of the dedication and urgency that this man has for the Kingdom of God and its citizens.

I was not prepared.

This book isn’t bad, but it’s not amazing either. Baxter is writing out of his context and though there are things to glean here I feel this book is centered in a Christendom that no longer exists.

Not the classic I was expecting
