About this listen

November 2009. Sergei Magnitsky is led to an isolation cell in a Moscow prison and beaten to death by eight police officers. His crime? To testify against the Russian Interior Ministry officials involved in a conspiracy to steal $230 million in taxes. Magnitsky’s brutal killing has remained uninvestigated to this day.

Red Notice is a searing exposé of the Russian authorities responsible for the murder, slicing deep into the heart of the Kremlin to uncover its sordid truths.

Critic reviews

"Reads like a classic thriller, with an everyman hero alone and in danger in a hostile foreign city...but it’s all true, and it’s a story that needs to be told." (Lee Child)

One of the best true stories I ever heard!

One of my all time favourite books for sure. Red Notice makes you really feel the characters' happiness, sorrow, and fear throughout the book.

Bravery on next level. Salute

One man's stand against an evil goverment and goverment leaders. I have not read a true story of anyone that has had more raw guts.

Incredible story!

Amazing story of perseverance, pursuit of justice, courage, investing, the wild west of Russia and so much more.

Great book (with some caveats), subpar narration

I really enjoyed this book, and managed to go through it all over 2-3 days because the story is so very captivating, whether it's the life story of the author or the astounding corruption in Russia's judicial system. However, there are still some ridiculous things which I felt were over the top and just placed in the story for dramatic factors that I believe the book could have done without. ***some spoilers ahead *** For example, how on earth would the author have known what Sergey said exactly moments before he was killed? Was it really necessary to place conversations in these instances when the author obviously would have known nothing on what is going on. This combines with the awful narration, which created ludicrously absurb voices for different accents, and really annoying female voice impersonations, were the only thing that detracted the book a bit for me. Still it was highly enjoyable and I recommend it for anyone interested in a well told story.

[Note: I also found a mistake that I hope gets fixed, 11 mins into chapter 22 it mistakes London for Lebanon, I doubt Hezbollah would be firing any missiles from London!]

Outstanding

I'm not saying that the last chapter brought a tear to my eyes... Well that's exactly what I'm saying. Excellent read and chilling story.

Excellent book

I loved this book. It reads like a thriller and it reinforces the belief that fact can be stranger than fiction. Before reading this I knew that Russia was a dangerous place to do business but I had no idea how deeply corrupt the government remains to this day.
