About this listen

"I have a problem. A really, really, big problem. I want to try out for the peewee hockey team, but so does Max."

Bullies are a problem in school, and Max Sellars is the worst one yet. In addition to hassling Freddy, Max also challenges him for the open spot on the peewee hockey team. Freddy's close friend Jessie is a star hockey player, and she secretly teaches him some rules and tricks. In a warm and funny ending, Max and Freddy make peace with one another, and - in a surprising twist - end up becoming teammates.

Editorial reviews

Having cemented his reputation as the "new Junie B. Jones", Ready Freddy Thresher tries out for the Hammerheads hockey team in his fourth adventure. Along the way, Freddy receives some competition from a school bully, and benefits from the valuable coaching of his hockey playing friend Jessie. Performer Fred Berman demonstrates truly remarkable breadth as a voice actor. The Audie Award winner singlehandedly calls forth the range of voices one would expect to hear in an episode of SpongeBob as he breathes life into Freddy’s friends and family. Sure to capture the attention of first through third graders, Berman’s distinct roleplaying serves as a colorful canvas for schoolyard squabbles, sibling rivalries, and the earnest, big-heartedness of young Freddy.

Ready Freddy

I liked how that the story is good for young readers to stand up to bullies, and get exited about reading! It is a fun and funny audiobook to listen to, and a good book for reading. 5 ✡stars for "Ready, Freddy"!

Fred Berman is a great sound artist

Fred Berman is among the best narrators for children's stories. My kids have listened to the six Ready Freddy stories over and over for more than my fingers and toes can count. They probably have memorized all the books already. Fred Berman is a genius in sound art. My kids keep asking me when Fred Berman is going to read more Ready Freddy stories? I hope the new ones are coming out soon. Fred Berman, we love you ;-)
