About this listen

The eccentric millionaire Robert “Bobby” Ayers has disappeared again, this time alone on his 60-foot luxury sailboat. Behind him he leaves the wreckage of a controversial life - three ex-wives, angry creditors, and the shadow of a murder in his past. He travels the endless expanse of the Pacific cloaked in stealth, only to meet his future there in the form of a young woman more mysterious than he is. Left behind is his only daughter, Laura, who must fulfill the commands of his living trust in a journey that leads her ever deeper into a fractured world of family, revelation, and personal destiny.

"An original and compelling tale...a great read and a profound experience" (Bob Woodward)

Great novel

I love the way he narrates, his sailing knowledge and the way he describes details of sea life.

Author's style

A fan of the author's YouTube sailing videos. His writing carries over from his solo sailing whimsy and insight that crosses the line that land lovers do not have.

A Great Story

I absolutely loved this story. The character development was superb and very relatable. Mr. Williams does an excellent job of introducing, explaining and creating an emotional connection between the characters and the reader. His intonation is perfect for the story and he does a great job with his narration. I highly recommend this book if you have an interest in sailing but if you don't, the story will still keep your attention. I loved how he painted the scene with the Jazz Greats!

Sailor’s delight

I’m a fan of the author’s singlehanded sailing videos on YouTube, so I’m biased, but I really enjoyed this book. All the more so because it was read by the author.

I myself a sailor and in search for adventure listened and thought of my legacy.

Three and counting

I’ve read (listened) to Rarotonga three times now. I love this book. The setting involves sailing - single handed sailing, and the author speaks with obvious authority from that perspective, but the story is really about people; individual people and relationships between people. The plot keeps you wondering, even after the first read - at least in my case. I sent this to my cousin who is an adventurer and skilled blue-water sailor, but I would recommend this to anyone who loves adventure and wonders about the workings of our own minds. Two thumbs up.

What a storyteller! Loved it. Would love to see where those girls take that sailboat in the next one!

Some weird juxtaposition, then it makes sense

I'm a non-fiction type, but there was just enough to the story to make this seem like it could be real. There really wasn't any part where disbelief took over. I enjoyed the story and narration; my wife who was trapped in my truck with me for 12-hours and loves historical-fiction / fictional novels, did not.
