About this listen

Ramage hopes to enjoy a well-deserved leave when he receives new orders: Commission and take command of the Dido - a massive 74-gun ship that carries enough weight of metal to destroy a frigate in a single broadside, or sweep a ship's decks clear of men. Accompanied by the courageous crew of the Calypso, Ramage ventures to sea once again - bound for the West Indies where he faces the challenge of commanding this massive weapon of war.

What a great series!

These Ramage novels by Dudley Pope are fantastic. I am now in bibliophile mourning because I’ve come to the end. Damnation. I guess I’ll just have to start over and give them a second listen. God bless Mr. Pope.

Main character binbs together a great tale.

Ramage is presented as a vigorously talented warrior. He commands with cunning brilliance and persistent compassion for his sailors. Great development of character s that you hrow to love and enjoy.

Sorry This is the Last

Would you listen to Ramage and the Dido again? Why?

Yes, this was a pleasant adventure in a new ship. Unfortunately, it is the last in what is over all a very entertaining series.

What does Steven Crossley bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Steven Crossley has become one of my favorite narrators. His work on the Ramage series has been excellent. He gives life to the characters.

number 18 the last book in the series

the author lived another 10 years after this book I wonder if he got tired of writing, or if he had any illness I enjoyed it enjoyed all the recurring characters and wished I could have had a little more closure on things but maybe it's best to remember the young lieutenant ramage and the Young Jackson, Rossi, Stafford, Orsini in the venerable Southwick.... it was a real joy to relisten to all these stories on audible it was like reawakening new pages....

One of the best Ramage novels!

Finally! Ramage is in a ship of the line, a 74; and he puts it to very good use in this stirring sea tale. Ramage continues with all the characters we've cone to know and love over time. The only real complaint is that this is the last audiobook available in the series and leaves things hanging for the avid audio listener. There are more Ramage printed books, but those do not fill the drudge on the commute home as these have for the last few months. Audible, how about some more Alan Lewrie and Ramage novel???

Rampage series is a winner!

I have finished all 18 of the Ramage Novels. Every one was great! Better than the Hornblower series.

The End

Another great action in the Ramage series of novels. I do wish however that Pope would have continued the series to some logical conclusion. Leaves you hanging and wanting for more.

Ramage is awesome!

Fans of naval literature will love Ramage. I read the first three in hard copy and got hooked. The next 15 on audible. Pope makes one feel the rhythm of sea life, sense the fear and excitement of battle, and admire excellent leadership. Crossly performs such that one feels one knows each of the main characters. One wishes for follow on novels.
