About this listen

Women are missing and dying in the Triangle area of North Carolina. One woman holds the key to why. With the conclusion of the Y-Man murders nine months ago and her resignation from the FBI, former Special Agent and Behavioral Analyst Rainey Bell has finally found peace and contentment she never thought possible - even if she remains a bit paranoid. Her wariness is justified when a monster from her past rears his demonic head. Rainey has faced death and evil before - alone. Now it’s different - she has a family to protect, her own. Only Rainey can keep them alive. Or can she?

Started out great, finshed poorly!

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No, I barely got through it myself. Would not ask that of a friend.

If you’ve listened to books by R. E. Bradshaw before, how does this one compare?

No, this was my first read by R. E. Bradshaw

What three words best describe Shannon McManus’s performance?

Fine, believable, but then irritating!

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

If you edit out the main characters relationship with her girlfriend, then maybe, but their relationship was immature and childlike.

Any additional comments?

I found myself rolling my eyes one to many times.

Great story, awesome characters!

Would you consider the audio edition of Rainey Nights to be better than the print version?

I would not consider the audio version better, just less work for my brain. I can run and have the story with me without having to really think.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I love Katie, she makes me laugh.

What about Shannon McManus’s performance did you like?

I think she did an awesome job on the voice characterization. There were a couple of places where it was a little slow, but that's due to me having read the book several times and heard it differently in my head. Overall she did a great job.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Not really, but I have read it several times before listening to it. So I was prepared for what was coming. I did laugh at the funny parts.

Any additional comments?

I want MORE! Please get all of the Rainey Bell series, as well as all of R. E. Bradshaw's works. I will buy all of them.

Rainey Nights Definitely Held My Interest

This second addition to the Rainey Bell Series is definitely absorbing. It offers suspense, interesting characters, and a bit of romance.

A Romantic Lesbian Thriller

In this follow-up to Rainey Days, FBI special agent behavioral specialist, Rainey Bell has been called in to help solve a series of violent crimes against young women. This time, there's so much more at stake because she now has a family to protect (as well as one who's reluctnant to compromise!)

Mixed into this smart puzzle is brutal violence, yes, but also a sexy romance.

I thoroughly enjoyed this.

Okay; but.

Taking a lot of tired cliches and wrapping them around a lesbian character doesn't make the cliches any fresher. That being said there are moments of semi-brilliance when the author is able to bring the characters to life. Unfortunately these moments are interspersed with a predictable plot line and some dialogue worthy of network television. The overall book has it's moments and the information on the criminal aspects of the plot are good. Hopefully in the future there will be a time when her main characters actually appear three dimensional. As for the reader; the same applies to her. She has a good overall pacing and at times, the right tone. Other times she seems to think her audience is a class of fifth graders.

Excellent Audio!

I loved Rainey Nights. The second book in the Rainey Bell series. Excellent story. Love all the characters. Great narration by Shannon McManus. Only disappointment is that this is the only book in the series on audio.
