About this listen

Private Jack Morgan investigates the disappearance of the biggest superstar couple in Hollywood.

Thom and Jennifer Harlow are the perfect couple, with three perfect children. They may be two of the biggest mega movie stars in the world, but they're also great parents, philanthropists, and just all-around good people.

When they disappear without a word from their ranch, facts are hard to find. They live behind such a high wall of security and image control that even world-renowned Private Investigator Jack Morgan can't get to the truth. But as Jack keeps probing, secrets sprout thick and fast - and the world's golden couple may emerge as hiding behind a world of desperation and deception that the wildest reality show couldn't begin to unveil. Murder is only the opening scene.

One Of Patterson's Best

I've read/listened to most of Patterson's works. Funny because I don't really LOVE his work or anything, but they are usually fun, fairly low-brow sorts of brainless fun, and I know what to expect from them. Private LA though, I consider to be one of his very best. Fun, now familiar characters that one can identify with, evil scary badguys, and lots of mystery and intrigue. Private LA is a very enjoyable read/listen

Jay Snyder is a brilliant and talented narrator. his performance makes the story exciting. He was the reason I bought the audio.

So so

Story line regarding stars a little lame, mafia connection did not ring true. I have read better

Predictable

What did you like best about Private L.A.? What did you like least?

This book contains multiple stories woven around characters right out of a soap opera. Set in Hollywood with tiring cliches for characters, I'd skip this book.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

It was anti-climactic. it seemed to have some cliff-hanger elements to it. Problem is--the characters are so 2 dimensional you do not care to know anything else about them. The character of Justine was so unnecessary to the story, you got the feeling she was added to appeal to the female reader.

What didn’t you like about Jay Snyder’s performance?

The reader sounds like he's out of a 1940s radio show, contrived and silly.

Did Private L.A. inspire you to do anything?

Not read James Patterson books who all appear to be written by someone else.

Good Book

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, it's exciting enough.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Sort of but I wasn't "on the edge". Plus, I listen while driving. :)

Have you listened to any of Jay Snyder’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No.

True to form - another great one by Patterson

It's rare that I read many books by any given author without the plots starting to feel formulaic. So far James Patterson's books do not seem to be formulaic at all. I've read several of his books (not just this series) and I'm looking forward to reading many more.
