About this listen

New York Times best-selling author Carl Hiaasen teamed up with journalist Bill Montalbano for this gripping thriller. Powder Burn stars Chris Meadows, a successful Miami architect who's leaving a meeting with an ex-girlfriend when he sees a car strike his ex, killing her. But the nightmare is only just beginning. As a witness to the crime, Chris knows the car's passengers - thugs linked to Miami's deadliest drug lords - are sure to come after him next. But what can he do if the police refuse to give him protection?

I enjoy Carl Hiaasen's writing because of the humor and interesting characters. I did not find this in Powder Burn. Not my kind of book.

Disappointed

Not up to the usual Hiaasen standards, at least for me. I’ll probably give his next book a pass.

Disappointing...

sloppy. disjointed. no decent protagonist. lacking detail. Is weapon used to knock out rich guy wiped clean of fingerprints? Most elevators won't move until a floor is selected or it is called, no matter how many times you press Door Close.

Stay away from Miami

I always enjoy Carl Hiaasen's books he keeps me interested, intrigued, and amused. His characters are always brought to life in his rich visual details.

captive

I thought this was ok but seemed to miss Haissen's normal Florida zaniness. Maybe he listened to his coauthor too much

Good - not great

Would you consider the audio edition of Powder Burn to be better than the print version?

not sure, since I did not read the print version, but the audio was great

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes, fast paced, no long rambling speeches

Have you listened to any of Robert Ramirez’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

good

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

tough question, not really sure

Darker

This story is both educational in that it tells the story of the early drug traffic in Florida and the complexity of trying to control it. The characters are also entertaining and fun. though it is true to life it is also not so true in that nothing really bad happened to theaters as in the main care

Educational and fun

Story was less than I expected from Hiaasen. it had a few good spots, but not ad fun as most of his other books.

Not as charmingly written

I've yet to read/listen to something from Hiaasen that I don't like, but this narrator made it VERY difficult to get into and follow the story. it was full of awkward pauses and the dialogue never flowed. Definitely not one of Carl's better stories.

The narrator killed it for me
