Acerca de esta escucha

The world's bestselling crime writer Patricia Cornwell presents the extraordinary eighteenth novel in the Kay Scarpetta series, in which Kay Scarpetta is confronted with a case that could ruin her professionally and personally.

Kay Scarpetta has been training at the Dover Port Mortuary, mastering the art of 'virtual autopsy'—a groundbreaking procedure that could soon revolutionise forensic science. And it is not too long before these new skills urgently need to be put into practice. A young man drops dead, apparently from a heart condition, eerily close to Scarpetta's home. But when his body is examined the next morning, there are stunning indications that he may have been alive when he was zipped inside a pouch and locked in the cooler.

When the revolutionary 3D radiology scans reveal more shocking details about internal injuries unlike any Scarpetta has ever seen, she realizes that this is a case of murder—and that she is fighting a cunning and uniquely cruel enemy. Now it is a race against time to discover who and why before more people die. But that time is running out . . .

I'm only halfway through this one, after zipping through the series up to this one. The narrator feels robotic and not emotionally connected like the other narrators, weird musical background interludes, and possibly my biggest gripe: Scarpetta has a whole secret military background we never heard about before now, despite hearing her inner monologue for 17 books? Or did I somehow forget that important detail? This one just feels off. I'm dreading that the next book is the same narrator. 😂 I may have to listen to the rest of this one and the next on a fast speed to just power through.

Feels disconnected from the series

I love this whole series. This one felt unfinished, so right on to the next one.

Love this whole series

I love the Kay Scarpetta series, but feel the narrator was not good for Port Mortuary. At times, I felt like I was listening to a newscaster and other times she would go into this weird whispering voice. Not excited to know that the same narrator did the next one, Red Mist, that I am starting next.

Narrator’s poor performance

Patricia Cornwell's kay scarpetta is as wonderful as ever but I cannot get through this narrator. I understand the certain ways that kay talks but this woman is I don't know anyway I folded 30 minutes in I tried two different times I just cannot listen to this woman any longer too bad because Patricia Cornwell is my favorite author

Well, it's hard to keep up with the story due to the narration.I like the previous narrator.

Did not like the narrator

I liked that PC went back to speaking in the first person. However, at times, it was difficult - almost exhausting - to follow her internal thoughts vs narration. Also, unlike the previous narrator who made Lucy sound like she was on testosterone’s, this narrator, while doing a great job with Scarpetta, made Marino sound weak and Benton sound perpetually tired/high. Not a fan of all the political references about the Reagan and Apartheid. All that said, the story line was excellent. Love that she kept Sock and that animals bring out a less turbulent, conflicted side of Scarpetta.

Hard to follow

The narration was lacking and not "personable". Not on line with my idea of Kay.

Nothing

A great plot, but the ending was a bit abrupt. The story did keep me guessing, and I really enjoy these characters. I did not enjoy the narrator - she should not do the voices, they were not well done and were distractingly inconsistent. The music randomly inserted at certain points was also not needed and distracting.

Good Plot!

I’ve been listening to the Kay Scrapata series for a while now. The beginning of this one was a little boring to me. I couldn’t get into all the abbreviations. The middle and ending was more to my liking.

Confused

I loved it all starting with the sound of the reader, the addition of music and of course the storyline with technology inserted within the story. This is one of my favorites.

I loved the addition of music at key moments.
