Gin and the crew are back and adding members again. Pretty soon all of Southtown will be part of Gin's family. This is a hilarious and entertaining series. If you like female bad asses who have a very practical moral code and comfort food, you will like this series. I hope we see a Spider Cookbook someday. I also find it hilarious how often Gin thinks people have read her mind. If anyone assumed that much non-verbal communication in real life, s/he would be constantly frustrated by misunderstandings and criminally inefficient communication.

A twist at the end

Most of this book is like all of the books in the series. However; the ending is actually a beginning of the time when Gin has to go after her most powerful new enemy. I'm ready to find out what is next in the series.

Gin deals with a vampire drug dealer

It’s only been a year since this series began with Spider’s Bite and Gin is about to celebrate her 31st birthday. This book kicks off a new wave of enemies for Gin. She has to deal with another of Ashland’s crime lords, the drug dealer Beauregard Benson, who is bringing a new drug to the streets.

This was an action packed and dangerous mission for Gin. She has to deal with a mad scientist who is also a different kind of vampire. Beauregard ended up being a real challenge for Gin but I loved how she took him down because it really showed the world how dangerous she could be. Also I love that she uses an Aston Martin at one point as a battering ram because that is sad for such a beautiful car but also a hell of a way to take someone out.

We also have a step back with Gin and Bria’s relationship in this one. Bria is determined to deal with things through the law but refuses to listen to anyone else’s opinions about it. This causes some real tension with her relationship with Gin and with Xavier. She also almost gets herself and others killed in her fight for vengeance. There is some resolution at the end of this book between them but I really hope she gets over this because her self-righteousness is starting to get annoying.

This book was just nonstop action and I loved every minute of it. Eleven books in and I am still surprised by this wonderful world that Estep has created. Also I love that Gin seems to be expanding her circle of friends, especially now that she has gone public. I am really looking forward to seeing who they all work together to bring down their enemies.

So far the best in this series

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I've followed this series since it started. Some of the books were kind of weak, and I didn't enjoy. Out of the 11, I returned two because the story line annoyed me, and I thought Gin was made to look stupid. This one was really good. Had many twists and turns and showed Gin's growth as a person and maybe it makes her weaker because she cares so much about those close to her, but it makes her stronger because of the bond she feels. I really think this was the best in the series so far.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Gin of course. The way she interacts with her friends and relations, her growth and strength from learning to care and go the extra mile for the sake of being true to her feelings, and for what is right. (However she's still not afraid to kick some butt to show that she's still has it)

Which scene was your favorite?

There were several, but the best was at the end when she meets the daughter of her nemesis M. Monroe.

Any additional comments?

Looking forward to how Jennifer Estep will continue this story with this new group of villains, who are all related to Gin's past. They seem to be stronger and more powerful than the old ones, and I'm afraid that some of the people Gin knows will be eliminated in the next few installments. It was promised in this one and the only way to continue the story would be to make it happen. Who will be eliminated, or tortured by Gin's enemies? We'll have to wait and see.

A laundry list of bad guys

Gin can really find herself in a pickle at times. Her Pro Bono work is liable to get her killed someday. When she inadvertantly helps one of her employees from the Pork Pit, she ends up as a lab rat.... literally! In the end, Gin does what she does best and whips the bad guys into submission (I mean death!). Long term she has a new assistant. Things are about to get ugly in Ashland.

Sure, the spider books are really easy to read and has an interesting lead

Lauren brings life to the book that I cant help but feel would be missing if I was to read the books

Where does Poison Promise rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

That is a hard question, simply due to the amount of a-books I have (over 380). I can say that it is up in the upper 20%

What did you like best about this story?

Gin (like the liquor) does not disappoint. The story with its subplots moves right along. I like how the author is able to keep her story lines fresh using the same characters. This is very smart writing and I am already waiting for the next release.

What about Lauren Fortgang’s performance did you like?

She has a southern drawl down part, living in New England for the first part of my life then spending the last 30 years on the west coast of FL I've heard my share of accents. She can bring a character to life with the little nuances.

Perfect escape from your everyday life !

Once again the spider gets you trapped in her perfect web ... Loved it. Cannot wait for the next one !

Gin Blanco returns in book 11 of the Elemental Assassin series. This time around Gin is dealing with a drug lord that has a new drug on the street called Burn. It affects everyone, but Elementals are affected strongly. Beauregard Benson, the drug lord in question is a crazy villain. But with Gin and her posse of friends at her side, you know there will be an epic battle. I was hoping we'd find out and fight M. M. Monroe in this installment, but it's pretty much guaranteed it will be in the next book.

I only have one real complaint in this book and it's with one of the characters. Oh Bria (Gin's sister), how I thought I was liking your character and we return to the I'm going to smack you if you keep acting like a fool. She finally accepted Gin for who she was several books back and I started enjoying her character, now it's a complete 180 and I just want to fast forward through her bits. I didn't, but I wanted to. All in all this was a solid addition to the series and I enjoyed it. I'd suggest this series for someone that enjoys Urban Fantasy.
