About this listen

A beautiful nurse. A lethal injection. A gruesomely charred corpse.

Nothing could have shocked the sleepy community of Morgantown, West Virginia, more than the lurid details that surfaced after a house fire claimed the life of Shelly Michael's husband, Jimmy. Local authorities suspected possible arson. Then they discovered that Jimmy had been dead before the fire even started - paralyzed by a fatal dose of muscle relaxant....

Did Shelly Michael, a respected nurse and mother, kill her second husband and torch her own home? Were the rumors true that she'd had an affair with her husband's employee only two weeks before the murder? Or did she kill Jimmy simply for the insurance money? Charged with first-degree murder and first-degree arson, Shelly would never stop claiming her innocence - even to this day.

Well Presented

A straightforward account of a horrible murder. The narrator was first class.
I'll be buying more Audible from this author.

I Fell Asleep

Very slow telling of a not so exciting or mind boggling murder. Way too many characters introduced that didn’t really have a whole lot to do with the murder. I kept falling asleep and eventually slept through the end. I didn’t even back it up to hear the verdict.

Well written and superb narration!

Immediately after finishing I got online to give this review. It was the perfect true crime story without unnecessarily repeated references and scenes. Not too podcast-y, not boring. Not too detective or law bent…. The perfect true crime book imo. More!

Wonderful

This was a great book, takes a minute to understand the players but you will if you hang in there and once you know you won’t be able to stop listening. A must listen. Money well spent

A Podcast Stretched to a Book.

It’s not a whodunnit, you know who did it. So many peripheral characters are introduced, but they’re really just filler and add nothing to understanding the tawdry motivations behind the murder. I’m two hours from the end and don’t care anymore.

I listened to the podcast on this and the book is way more informative. Well written and enjoyed how evry detail was in it.

Slow to start

Interesting, story, don’t know how anyone could believe Shelly Michael would be innocent… just the way she was would make me not trust her.

Good Book

Good book to listen to. Good story and good job on the narration.
What is hard for me to believe is as smart as Shelly was, she thought her lies were convincing. She had such an ego and I can only assume she is still declaring her innocence.
