About this listen

One uniquely gifted football fan goes from face-in-the-crowd to manager-to-remember as this electrifying LitRPG series for fans of Ted Lasso continues.

When football fanatic and lovable loser Max Best saved an old codger from a mugging, he never expected to be rewarded with the ability to immediately pinpoint a player's specific skills—and use that knowledge to up his own levels. Ever since that fateful night, Max has devoted himself to the game far more than any mere fan, becoming not only a serious footballer in his own right but a leader both on and off the pitch.

Then, just as he's about to accept a manager position at formerly bottom-of-the-league Telford, Max is offered the job of director of football at Chester FC, a role that may not even exist . . . yet. But in order to have a chance in hell of getting the gig, he's going to have to convince the team's fan representative board—one of whose members goes by the charming name "Bulldog"—that he's for real.

To do that, Max will have to play attack and defence as he navigates the stark reality of the professional football industry and struggles to survive to play another day. Because while playing hard on the field can get you a win, playing hardball off the field can lose you everything.

The third volume of the hit progression-fantasy series—with more than 800,000 views on Royal Road—now available on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and Audible!

Bloody excellent

400 books this series is near the top. I suppose if you didn’t like first two you won’t like this one but it was my favorite Keep em coming ted. Narration also top.

politics get in the way of the story

this is a nice book and it's fun at times but the author tries to hard to out his political views in the story. it's too much on the nose. the performance from the voice actor is SUPERB. excellent. if you don't mind too much political stuff it's a nice read overall

Enchanting and unorthodox story about football

This review is essentially for the entire series so far. Ted Steel's writing invokes emotions and romance towards the game of football. Luke Francis brings it to life with his amazing performance. Max Best enthralls all who he meets with his witty banter, riveting retrospection, and mystically enhanced football savvy. I honestly may have become a fan of the sport because of it.

Fun!

Narrative is great and so many funny moments. I love how he uses current social jokes or even the streamer that helped him.

Best ending

Meandering and a bit unstructured, as is typical of royal road type projects. But the ending was, as Max Best would say, mint.

If the quality keeps improving like this, it will become a genuine five star series.

20/20

Honestly, this series shouldn’t be this good. I shouldn’t be staying awake to listen to just 10 more minutes. I shouldn’t drive around the block just to hear the story longer, yet I do. I could not have imagined blazing through books 1, 2 & 3 within 2 weeks, but I have. Two thumbs up. Give it a shot.

The story is starting to really move

The build up is over and in this one we really start to see the path forward for Max to change the world one afterthought player at a time. The series should really be called scout player manager GM because Max really runs the table, and i'm excited to see how that balance is "managed" moving forward. SO GOOD!
