Acerca de esta escucha

As magic’s influence spreads across the five kingdoms, the White Tower’s reach extends with it.

No place is left untouched.

In his quest for vengeance against the witch Mangora, Ty stumbles across a curious book he believes might help. But its pages hold a dark secret that threatens to unravel everything his family and friends have been fighting for. The more he reads, the more addicted he becomes to the knowledge it offers....

With no memory of who he is or where he came from, Ayrion finds himself traveling with a pair Rhivanni tinkers as they head east toward Sidara. Then a plea for help from a young rover boy leads them into the middle of a horrific bloodbath against an enemy no one has seen in over a thousand years. If they aren’t stopped, these creatures will spread across Aldor, leaving nothing but destruction in their wake....

As the first prisoner to escape the clutches of the White Tower, Ferrin’s only concern is reaching his sister, Myriah, before the Black Watch catches him. Joined by Rae, her daughter, Suri, and a former captain in the Black Watch, the small band makes their way north, hoping to keep ahead of the white riders. Little do they know who has been sent to track them down....

Meanwhile, Kira and the Warren underground continue their search for Reevie as they attempt to discover the reason behind the strange disappearances in Aramoor. However, the answers they seek are more disturbing than anything they could have imagined....

Waaaay to many characters and unnecessary details. Do I need to know what every stranger likes for breakfast? I never know if I'm supposed to remember them, if they will tie in later or end up in peices. Then I'll hear a name and be like, what? who? The names sound familiar too. It's a bit convoluted, reminds me of Charles Dickens or Stephen King. I've only realized I'd read all 22 hours and not much has happened other than a bunch of dismembered bodies. I mean, after all this time surely the king has learned of the creatures?! Can only the 4 people know?? And it never did coincide with the main, I guess, story. The first was character driven, this one is VanDiesel-guy-gory driven. I prefer the former.

Awesome but...

I’m really enjoying this series – lots of characters and different stories, well written, and long which is great for audible credits. I don’t enjoy the zombie-plague part because I think there are too many books going there, but it’s still a great story with great characters!

Great epic book

Book 2 seems to focus on 3 primary, along with some secondary, character story arcs; that of Ayrion, Ty and Ferrin. Michael Wisehart ability to created interesting backstories for the good and bad secondary characters surrounding them made it easy to be entertained with each of these separate story arcs. I found Terrin's story arc the most entertaining with Ayrion's a close second. Ty's coming-of-age arc, while still entertaining, came off a bit scattered which I attribute to Wisehart decision to include so many wielders to surround him with.

The areas where my interest began to wane was the elongated, very similar battle encounters with the heroes adversaries. This was most apparent was Ayrion's battles with his nemesis.

For all of the great escapes and near-death battles the main story hadn't move forward as much as I had anticipated. Even so, I found the book very much worth the credit spent on it.

Props again to Tim Gerard Reynolds excellent narration performance.

Worthy book, repetitive battle encounters tedious

I plan to use this to build a D&D Homebrew campaign. Great material here including maps.

3 main groups of adventurers facing different challenges.

Love the narrator he does a great job making each character unique and interesting.

Why not 5 stars: a lot of the content seems derivative and a lack of diversity in character perspectives (none of the female characters seem very well developed) - one is basically there to heal the man, another is only seen as a victim more than as a survivor - it would have been better to have more from her perspective and to see her healing and growing - I would have loved to have had the shopping experience from her perspective, also when a main characters mother is killed it is seen as a trigger for the characters anger without the other family members really expressing that grieving experience.

I wasn't entirely thrilled with the first book but at this point I have probably close to 600 books in my Audible library and I'm running out of things I want to listen to. The second installment of this series definitely feels more developed and less like the author is pulling from existing similar properties. I wouldn't put it in the same category as the Mistborn series or the Stormlight Archive, but it does fill that void and is quite enjoyable overall.

Second book is better

Loved it. I actually like that there a different story lines to follow. I really hope they converge later in the series!

Great continuance of the story!

I liked the characters personalities. I did not like the loss of Breens mother or the loss of the failings mother.

The story of the family of Breen and his father was so beautiful as they loved the failing.

The White Tower sequel follows the first without the author feeling the need to continually rehash the story from the first book. Add to that, the narration by Tim Gerard Reynolds, and you have an audiobook that is all killer, no filler.

Bring on the 3rd instalment!
