About this listen

Pittsburgh has recently (and more than once) been called the most livable city in America; yet the old image of smoky skies and steel mills spewing forth grit has never quite disappeared. Its history as a dirty industrial center is a part of its residents, a part of their toughness. The people of the steel city fight. Includes brand-new stories by Stewart O'Nan, Hilary Masters, Lila Shaara, Rebecca Drake, Kathleen George, Paul Lee, K. C. Constantine, Nancy Martin, Kathryn Miller Haines, Terrance Hayes, Carlos Delgado, Aubrey Hirsch, Tom Lipinski, and Reginald McKnight.

The complete list of narrators includes Gabra Zackman, Jennifer Van Dyck, Christopher Kipiniak, Kevin Free, Suzanne Toren, Ben Bartolone, Johnny Heller, Jonathan Davis, David Ledoux, Gary Dikeos, Allyson Johnson, and Joe Barrett.

A Variety of Medium to Very Good Noir Short Stories, Well Narrated

This is a variety of noir style short stories set in the Pittsburgh area. As a Pittsburgh native, I enjoyed that aspect of these stories very much. As an audiobook product, the narration is very good. There are various narrators performing the narrations. I agree with another reviewer that the quality of the stories varies. One story is about child molestation and as a retired police officer and investigator, I strongly disliked that particular story. Overall I liked this collection and the narration very much. Thank You,,.

Overall good

The quality varies widely, but it's mostly good. The stories and vocals usually match well, but there's some real stinkers.

I wanted to love it

Would you try another book from Kathleen George (editor) and/or the narrators?

Kathleen George as an author- definitely. This group of narrators- no

Would you ever listen to anything by Kathleen George (editor) again?

Yes

Would you be willing to try another one of the narrators’s performances?

No

Any additional comments?

I wanted to love it. I didn't. Some of the narrators were not very good, others were downright terrible and it made listening painful.
