About this listen

A comedy, a tragedy. Threadgill Pickett, veteran of the Civil War, breaks out from an Alabama old folks home and starts a quest northward to kill the last living Union Soldier. This is to avenge his brother, who was needlessly killed by Union soldiers, outside of any conflict. On his journey Threadgill encounters two brothers building a time machine, a trio of Klu Kluxers, a man collecting raccoons that turn out to be rabid, a wannabe country singer, and a truck-driving woman to make men stand in awe. He also encounters a Utopian society of blacks and whites who share family, food, love, and grief.

Great story. Surprisingly funny.

Would you consider the audio edition of Pickett's Charge to be better than the print version?

Yes. It can be difficult sometimes to read any book and picture how each character would sound like, but Jeremy Arthur's performance really brought the characters to life. It was a well written, narrated and surprisingly humorous story.

Lots of twists and turns

What did you love best about Pickett's Charge?

The storyline never went where I expected it to, but always went somewhere interesting, and had me confused and amused at the same time. The narration was really well done and brought be back down South for a while.

Incredible written and narrated

Who was your favorite character and why?

Threadgill Pickett, of course.

What about Jeremy Arthur’s performance did you like?

I just loved how authentic his accents sounded. His voice was so great for this book.

Any additional comments?

This story made me laugh out loud so often. The characters were really out-there, but they were very real, too. This book is so smart and funny and wonderfully written. I can't wait to listen to more from Charles McNair.
