About this listen

Marcus Garvey (1887-1940) was an orator of Black Nationalism, and founder of the Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League. He advanced a Pan-African philosophy which inspired a global movement, known as Garveyism. This book, The Philosophy and Opinions of Marcus Garvey (1923) was compiled by his wife, Amy Euphemia Jacques Garvey, mainly from his speeches.

Promoting unity between Africans and the African diaspora, he campaigned for an end to European colonial rule in Africa and encouraged the political unification of the continent. Garvey's black nationalism went hand in hand with his Christian outlook and he contended that African Americans ought to view God as black and the Virgin Mary as a "Black Madonna”. The main message of his speeches was that Blacks should seek material, social, and political success.

A Revealing Look at a Great Black Leader

I gained a great deal of knowledge and respect for the philosophy and opinions of Marcus Garvey. This narration helped me to better understand who he was and what he was trying to do to help African-Americans. I think his opinions and philosophy are just as relevant in 2020 as they were during his time. Listening to the philosophy and opinions of Marcus Garvey made me very proud. He was a "man among men."

Father of Black Empowerment

Most black leaders we know by name were influenced by his thoughts and actions. Clear and concise, this is a firm foundation for the ideals of the great Marcus Mosiah Garvey.

Thought Provoking

Garvey predicted the very things that we are facing today as a scattered African nation. UNIA described the process to gain true freedom for all negroes spread out throughout the world. Love the message of Love with the reality of death to gain the peace and respect due to a powerful nation. If you are truly seeking peace, you must prepare for war. This should be a mandatory read for all Africans.

We must stop trying to gain freedom from those who are unwilling to give. It’s not there’s to give but for ours to take

The truth will set you free but first it will piss you off!!
Loved it

Outstanding Narrator and Book

I really enjoyed this book and the clarity of the narrator in translating the Message of Garvey. Even though this wasn’t his voice, the message came across strong and clear. I feel the pride of being a Black Man

Amazing!

Although I do not agree with every part of the strategy. It was AMAZING! And could have worked in his lifetime! He was a clear seer, visionary, and diligent follower and teacher of Christ. #MindBlown
