Publisher's summary

Brooke's best friend, Zeke, has been given the lead role in the school play, "The Phantom." Zeke's totally into it. He loves dressing up in the grotesque phantom costume and scaring the other members of the cast. Brooke thinks Zeke's getting a little too into it.

But then really scary things start happening. A message appears on a piece of scenery: "The Phantom Strikes!" A stage light comes crashing down.

One of the best of the series.

I won't drop spoilers. This was a mystery story. I enjoyed the nostalgia of school activities that were presented here. In this particular example, a school play! I enjoyed the building tension around the mystery and the various misdirections. I would rate this book in the top 10% of the Goosebumps series. Right up there with The Girl Who Cried Monster, The Ghost Next Door, Welcome To Dead House, Stay Out Of The Basement, and Say Cheese and Die. 5 out 5 stars.
