About this listen

A sizzling new standalone from USA Today best-selling author Vanessa Fewings.

True passion can't be bottled.

A stolen formula. A seductive suspect. A dangerous romance.

Raquel Wren’s world has fallen apart. Her husband has divorced her. Close friends have abandoned her. The money has run out. The pieces of a once idyllic life have completely crumbled. And now, the only thing that can save Raquel from total ruin...has been stolen.

Raquel is the owner of the small-town boutique store, Perfume Girl, a quaint location offering bottled scents from around the globe, including her own personal formulas. Creating perfume has been a passion since she was a little girl, but her latest work, a scent years in the making, is her masterpiece. The one that will make her mark on the industry and save her life in the process.

But now it’s gone. Stolen right from her shop. All would be lost if Raquel didn’t feel she knew who was behind the theft. Devastated to her core, she decides to do something about it.

Astor Beauregard is the sexy, enigmatic owner of House of Beauregard, the renowned cologne empire based in the notorious city of South Beach, Miami. It’s within this luxurious kingdom that Raquel will delve to unravel the mystery of the crime, a path that will lead her directly to Astor, sparking an unforgettable passion while uncovering a shocking truth.

It’s on the famous, sun-soaked, salsa-fueled streets of South Beach that USA Today best-selling author Vanessa Fewings releases Perfume Girl, a heart-racing romance novel that will have listeners feeling the heat like never before.

In this new standalone novel, a fiery romance is ignited - one that will burn its way to a stunning revelation.

Beautiful story & performances!

I listened to this book 7 months ago and it is still with me. It is a beautiful story with layered characters. The descriptions are so vivid I feel like I can still smell some of the creations described. You can feel the passion these characters put into their work, and into each other!

I listened on audible. Jason & Lucy are some of my favorite narrators, so it was no surprise that the performances were superb! I have listened again, and have no doubt I will do so again. Definitely recommend!

SMELLS LIKE A WINNER TO ME

The Publisher’s Summary pretty much gives you the base notes for this book’s intoxicating perfume.. there’s a good blend of sizzling chemistry, romance, intrigue, passion, suspense, sex and love.. ingredients that mingled well with each other for a while. However, also included in this delicate mix were top notes of secrets, betrayals and lies which eventually sours the intricate aroma for a while.

Two Perfumers.. one at the top of his game with a billion dollar Perfume House and the other has been forced to close her Perfume Shop, has a broken marriage and has a floundering career because someone has stolen her latest creation. Fate and destiny have conspired to bring these two damaged characters together and, when their worlds combine, there will be an evocative evolution of delicious possibilities. A masterful blend that’ll defy logic, have sweet under notes, passionate middle notes and heady top notes of love.. and, if blended just right, it’ll heal hearts, reveal enemies, put the past (and it’s demons) where they belong, join a lonely man with a bruised woman and heal hearts. But, if not treated with care, it could damage reputations, leak poison, fuel mistrust, crush dreams and break hearts.

Worth a credit? A very enjoyable dual POV suspenseful love story brought to life by two wonderful narrators (Jason is way.. way.. way up there on my list of favorite narrators sigh) and the combination of a good story narrated well is YES creditworthy. No cheating, no cliffhanger and a nice HEA ending.

Had so much potential, but was infuriating

It’s so annoying to me when characters in books make decisions that are so glaringly the wrong decisions. Over and over and over. This long-winded book could have been over in chapter 1 if the female lead had just spoken her truth and stood up for herself. But instead she took a strange roundabout path every chance she got. And it was constantly infuriating to see how she could continue straying so far from her goal. The male character was clearly written by a woman. He is written to be absolutely flawless, selfless and perfect in every way. Except even he makes the weirdest choices. It’s all so bizarre. There are also histories the characters have in other countries, and while his connection is relevant, hers isn’t. And it just seems almost like an attempt to deepen the character that fell short. The writing was repetitive and, while Vanessa Fewings has an excellent grasp on the English language, slow and boring. I also found it so annoying that when the female lead had a chance to confront the male lead, she instead swoons. I’m unimpressed in every way. I had my hopes high for this one, as chemistry between chemists and pheromones between perfumers are both alluring takes on romance. But aside from mentioning the same ingredients over and over, there weren’t as many descriptions of scents as I had hoped (like in Kayley Loring’s “Sleeper”). I keep shaking my head thinking about the many opportunities this female lead could have solved all of her problems by being honest and instead chose to act like a frazzled mess and not tell the truth. Also, a bit of a spoiler I suppose, but the people involved in wronging her never face any consequences. The injustice of that also annoys me.
