About this listen

Darcy is surprised that Elizabeth has won the friendship of his unusual sister, and he is shocked when he begins to fall for her as well.

Mr. Darcy feels guilty that he was not there to prevent Mr. Bingley from marrying Jane Bennet, who no doubt was only after his money. As to their upcoming stay at Pemberley, surely if he can tolerate Caroline Bingley, than he can tolerate Jane’s sister, Elizabeth, as well.

When the Bingleys and Elizabeth visit, Darcy's peculiar sister Georgiana finds Miss Bennet to be a delightful companion. As Elizabeth helps Darcy to understand and appreciate his sister, he realizes the handsome Miss Bennet is an admirable woman.

Caroline Bingley, Catherine de Bourgh, and George Wickham plot to achieve their own selfish goals. Even as these threats arise, love whispers to Elizabeth and Darcy to overcome their pride and prejudice.

Wonderful story and performance

This book meets all my expectations for an alternate P&P book. The characters were like old friends. Very cozy and sweet with some unexpected moments. The reader is excellent and I thoroughly enjoyed the story.

Outstanding Book and Performance!

I enjoyed this book and the narrator immensely. It is a rich P&P variation with an unusual element of a character on the autism spectrum. It is so good that I have listened to it three times, particularly for the amusing portrayals of Caroline Bingley and Lady Catherine. Excellent book!

Peacocks of Pemberley

I love this book, and if it was a delicious cake, the audiobook would be the frosting upon it. The writing is superb, with a tiny amount of angst, and a huge amount of heart. As I already stated in a Facebook comment, Harry Frost does Georgianna exceptionally well. There is no doubt she is exceptional and straightforward in her speech. It’s a revelation to “hear” a such talented voice actor give life to the words the author has written for the characters. It’s like watching the scene in the movie “The Wizard of Oz” where the screen changes from the black and white of Kansas to Oz’s glorious technicolor!

We JAFF audiobook fans are forever grateful for the joy of listening to some of the best narrators in the recording world, of which Harry Frost is way up there at the top!

Very entertaining

I first read this book and did not especially enjoy it but listening to it gives the story a completely different feel. Harry Frost brings to life the emotions and humor of the characters that were not captured by just reading. There is much humor in hearing the absurdity of Caroline Bingly and Lady Catherine and the sleazy Wickham. In the book they were upsetting but the audiobook makes them seem more ridiculous than frightening. I greatly enjoyed this creative work by the author. I always love learning something new no matter the genre and here we learn about peacocks. Interestingly one was in my neighbor’s yard even though we live in a densely populated area. Such a mystery! I can easily recommend this book. Harry Frost is the best. He is a true voice actor and such a difference from just a reader. He could make reading the phone book fun and entertaining. Well done and worth the credit.

Absolutely delightful

I truly enjoyed this book. Although nine and a half hours long, the book is very fast moving and engrossing. I finished it in one day because I just could not stop! I wanted to know how it ended. The plot is different from the original P&P in that Darcy and Elizabeth did not meet until after Jane and Charles Bingley were married. The newly married Bingleys came to visit Georgiana and Darcy at Pemberly and bought Elizabeth and Caroline Bingley with them. I loved the wonderful character of Georgiana. She is delightfully unusual - apparently is somewhere on the autism scale. She is shy and socially awkward. She cannot stand Caroline but takes an immediate liking to Elizabeth. This of course infuriates Caroline. What I really really liked about this book is that Charles Bingley grows a backbone and also I like that appropriate retribution is visited upon all the villains (Caroline, Wickham, Lady Catherine, Mrs. Young, etc.). That is very satisfying because many times the villains in the P&P books do not get punished for their hateful actions.
Harry Frost is the perfect choice as narrator. In fact Frost is always the perfect choice as narrator of P&P books. He has a wonderful Mr. Darcy voice. In addition, he does an amazing job in this book performing the voices and personalities of Georgiana, Caroline and Lady Katherine! Frost skillfully reads with versatility, understanding, feeling and with a smoothness that is most pleasing.

Another excellent book

I loved the relationship between Darcy and Georgianna and Georgianna and Elizabeth. Most of all it really resonated with me as a parent the conversations between Darcy and Fitzwilliam about how they raise Georgianna and what her life might look like in the future. I have children that I have to have conversations like this all the time. You question yourself and what is best for them. You finally come to the conclusion you do your best to make them happy and successful in life but maybe not exactly like everyone sees it should be.

The turns in the plots were fun and I always love this author and narrator combo just wonderful!

Bingley developing a backbone and Taking his sister to task.

I thought the story was a little longer than need to be need to cut down all those epilogue.

Thoroughly Enjoyable Read As Usual!

I love this author’s variations of Pride and Prejudice. Always engaging, clean and emotionally satisfying. There is understanding, justice and compassion in her stories, but the diverging plots keep you on your toes and are interesting thought experiments on what could happen if just a few circumstances unfolded differently. If you’re a fan of this classic, I feel confident you’ll truly enjoy her books. I never regret using my credits for them.

Great variation

I really enjoyed this variation. I believe Georgiana is autistic or something autistic adjacent. This p behavior serves to bind her quite quickly and friendship to Lizzy.
